When Will We Ever Take these Predators Seriously? Robert Gomez, Sex Offender, Arrested with 15 Year Old in his Bed

When is our justice system ever going to actually protect the public from sex offenders?Raymond Gomez How about from sex offenders who have already been arrested? Our judicial system continues to fail us miserably. Case and point, 42 year old, convicted sex offender, Robert Gomez was arrested after a routine search of his home in Florida. What did police find? A 15 year old girl he had met in an on-line chat room laying in his bed.

When a 42-year-old registered sex offender answered the door naked and acting nervous during a surprise check by cops, the officers acted on suspicion and searched his home.

What they found next was a 15-year-old girl in Robert Gomez’s bed, according to MyFoxTampaBay.com.

The girl cooperated, telling cops she met Gomez in an online chat room seven months ago, and that a sexual relationship began immediately. (Fox News)

Sex offender arrested after police find teen in his bed

Oh my God, what was this teenager thinking? And we wonder why we need laws to protect children and teenagers as their thought process isn’t always based in logic. It would seem that our judicial system will allow this man to repeat the same sex crime over and over. Then when he finally graduates to murder, the system will act shocked and offended.

Inside Gomez’ bedroom was a 15-year-old girl who told police she was 18. Investigators say she knew Gomez was a sex offender, and was trying to protect him.

Under the terms of Gomez’ probation he isn’t allowed to use the internet, but the victim says she met Gomez online in a Christian chat room.

Both accessed the internet through their cell phones, and police say this case, is a cautionary tale for parents.

“Chat rooms for your teen or child – it’s a mall for victims is what it is.  Parents need to monitor that, monitor the phone bills,” Pecora warned. (Fox-Tampa Bay)

In just my own opinion, Laws against child predators should be put in place so that justice is swift ( no longer then 6 months from arrest to begin serving sentence if found guilty) and sure (No Plea bargaining or appeals for abuse of a minor child )sentencing for any sexual exploitation.
The worlds children cannot or will not protect themselves so
so it should be our duty to help them stay safe wiether they like it or not.
One child’s life saved makes it ALL worth it .

I’m not blaming the victim … but while having sex with minors constitutes statutory rape, therefore making him guilty even if the girl were willing, it sounds to me that she was indeed a willing participant.

Guess I’m way behind the times, because I don’t think someone who is 15 years old should be having sex. However, I admit that this austere philosophy finds few takers today.
The relationship began immediately? And she knew he was a registered sex offender and was trying to protect him?

This girl’s guardian angel might have been working overtime on her case. At least there was no abduction or abuse, judging from the article. The guy is still guilty of statutory rape, of course.

As for their being on a “Christian chat site,” I guess it illustrates the proverb: “The Devil can quote Scripture for his own purposes.”

And I would look askance at people who answer the door naked, unless the house is on fire. Rather unusual … even for Florida, I would think.

Really, this is a total no brainer. Put them away, on the first offense, forever. IT IS A CRIME AGAINST CHILDREN. WHEN WILL THE JUDICAL SYSTEM TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY?

The judical system treats this like a cat and mouse game.

Hey JUDGES, these are the children of the US, or because they don’t vote, it doesn’t matter? Yeah that’s what I am starting to think, either that or these lenient judges have a large voter pool of child predators.

#2 & Susan – are you kidding me? Sounds as if you believe he was only “technically” breaking the law, and since it appears she consented….it’s ok.
This is a 15yr old girl. Did you think the 42yr old convicted sex offender was merely interested in relaying stories from bible school? Did they text about how boring math class was that day?
My god, she’s 15 and he’s a 42yr old sex offender – what do you think he had on his mind. And how much psychological manipulation do you think he did to get this 15yr to sleep with him knowing he’s a sex offender? Yeah, no abuse though…
He obviously should never have been let out in the first place!

Yea, beautiful Richard, beautiful. You’re dead wrong on this one.

Under the law, a 15 year old girl does not have the ability to consent to a sexual relationship. Therefore, she is not a willing participant. She was manipulated and enticed by a convicted sexual predator and there is no telling what damage has been done to her by her “relationship” with the deviant. All of the minors who leave the safety of their homes to meet predators have done so willingly without recognizing the danger they are being subjected to. They are naive children and they are not to blame for the actions of these older adults whose mission it is to lure them out to meet for sex – which is why the adults, not the children, are prosecuted.
