What is Wrong with America and Our Media … NBC to Pay $1 Million for Interview with Paris Hilton

NBC paying Paris Hilton $1M for the first post fail house interview! Do we really wonder what is wrong with our media and society for that matter that a news organization would pay this kind of money for a non-story. Paris Hilton, famous for being famous and no infamous is cashing in on her jail house antics. So many have stated that it is the pubic’s fascination that drives the “Paris Hilton” hard news stories; however, we think its just the opposite. What would happen if the media just did not cover Paris’s exploits? If a Paris fell in the woods and no one saw it, how would we know? Or care for that matter.

($1 Million dollars, guess Dr. Evil was doing the negotiating)

However, seeing that Paris Hilton in no way needs the money and claims she has turned over a new leaf and changed behind bars after with her jail experience … maybe she will donate the money to a charity to help find missing persons? ABC Says It Was Outbid for Paris Hilton Interview

NBC executives did not deny that they had had discussions about interview rights with Ms. Hilton, though the news division said yesterday that it could not yet confirm any interview would take place.

By the way, we thought that the media claims they do not pay for interviews? Of course they will come up with every excuse, dodge and what have it to call it anything but payment for the actual interview. Call it what you want MSM, it is not payment for pictures or production material … it is payment for the interview to secure. JUST ADMIT THE TRUTH! As Larry Garrison, President of SilverCreek Entertainment, stated in his book, The Newsbreaker, and to us … “they all find ways to pay.”

The spokeswoman for NBC News, Allison Gollust, insisted, however, that “NBC News does not pay for interviews — never have, never will.”

Deals involving payment for production materials, not for the interviews themselves, have become increasingly common as networks seek to secure exclusive arrangements with prominent people.

Update I: Paris Loses Network Interest as they Pass on InterviewsParis_Hilton5

So why the change of heart by the networks? Could it be because they were shamed and outed for attempting to pay a billionaire to be heiress a $1 million for an interview. There is a sense of absurdity where even it would appear the media has to take notice and say no. Well Paris could always make her own interview video and post in on the web … oh wait, that has already been done.

Paris Hilton appeared to be a celebrity without a spotlight on Friday after two major U.S. television networks snubbed the hotel heiress they initially fought over for a first post-jail interview.

An ABC executive said his network declined interview offers from the multimillionaire socialite after Hilton and her mother, Kathy, personally sought to secure a deal in a flurry of telephone calls to ABC News veteran Barbara Walters.

Meanwhile, rival network NBC issued a statement saying it, too, had informed Hilton’s representatives that it was “no longer interested in pursing an interview with her.” (Reuters)

HA, ha, ha. Well gee ain’t it funny how so many people get religion and morph when they’re thrown in the pokey…remember Watergate?

If the network wants to save money, it can interview me for only half a million. Of course, Paris H. is better-looking.

With all this talk about payment … one wonders whether Joran managed to get his cut from his “admirer” Greta vS.

      P. T. Barnum was sooooooo correct. Hay, I’ll spend a few days in the pokey for a cool mil!

      Richard,

Greta not only probably paid for that interview she bowed to his demands and conditions for that interview.

Hey Greta are you ever going to ask him what he meant by the “other 20 times”?

    5. LilPuma on June 22nd, 2007 5:11 pm

Greta welcomed family and friends on her show to tell us tales of why Paris was late for court – NOT a sense of entitlement, but actually someone else’s fault – and why she drove so many times without a license – not her fault but that of her “team” – and how she’s really very nice and has all of these businesses of her own and gets no family money and now Paris wants to go on TV to tell more tales.

I say boycott NBC. Not much on there anyway. JMO In fact, boycott Paris Hilton. In fact, I talked with some friends recently about going on a trip together and had already told them I won’t stay at a Hilton. This whole thing disgusts me. Thank goodness Lindsay and/or Paris haven’t killed anyone yet. At least Lindsay makes fewer excuses.

I heard the interview was cancelled.

Hey Larry – we’re still waiting on that “deep throat”.

If true, NBC got off cheap. They will make 20x that in advertising during the interview. It’s not about the media, it’s about our society at the present. For some reason people are fascinated over this new trend of “celebrity slut”. Sadly it has carried over to the teens of today. Been to a Mall lately? Frightening.

    8. Richard on June 22nd, 2007 6:00 pm

Not only that, Mr. Muffintop … what galls my kibe, as Shakespeare said, is to see a classic text come out with a picture from a movie version on the cover. It’s as though, without the movie, the book itself wouldn’t be anything.
