Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake this morning – ARUBA REGION

I wonder whether Aruba tourism will be promoting this news at the Boston Travel Show this weekend? Come to Aruba for our blue sky’s, white sandy beaches and 4.5 magnitude earthquakes. In the past two years, Aruba has had several earthquake-like happenings affect their tourism … now they get the real thing, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake. Although this is considered a light earthquake, it is far from a category of minor.

That is what was reported from the USGS: Magnitude 4.5 – ARUBA REGION, 2007 March 22 12:57:07 UTC

Region ARUBA REGION
Distances 50 km (30 miles) ENE of ORANJESTAD, Aruba
90 km (55 miles) NW of WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, Neth. Antilles
135 km (80 miles) N of Coro, Venezuela
1830 km (1140 miles) SE of Miami, Florida

The Severity of an Earthquake

Richter magnitude scale

Light 4.0-4.9 Noticeable shaking of indoor items, rattling noises. Significant damage unlikely. 6,200 per year (est.)

Moderate 5.0-5.9 Can cause major damage to poorly constructed buildings over small regions. At most slight damage to well-designed buildings. 800 per year

For Goodness sake LIERUBA- wake up GOD does not like UGLY….You all are going down. You could be asleep and BAM
Coverup for tourism??or because the higher ups were involved. The ones that did this…you all are SICK PERVERTED PIGS. When for goodness sake is ENOUGH enough!!!save your Island. You messed with an ANGEL of Gods and he has given you enough time to COME CLEAN.

    4. mayan_moons on March 22nd, 2007 1:18 pm

If the quakes don’t get em maybe the tsunami will! Although Aruban’s would never admit it i do feel like God is going to bring down his wrath on this island of evil.

Earthquakes are measured on a logarithmic scale…the intensity between 4 and 5 is much, much, much less than between 5 and 6. So, a moderate quake can cause major damage, while a quake of 4.5 is not really significant and may be not noticed by many, especially those on the move.

The big guy is closing in

      on who killed Natalee Ann.

Why it was Joran THE UNCAPTURED RAPIST Van der sloot! :( )

Read the case files. The answers have always been

there. All you have to do is read, and put down the crack pipe and ludes.

He’s coming for you Joran! The earthquake was

in Aruba, so apparently he’s going to take that

sack of quahog dung you call a father FIRST… and then

work his way back to you near The Hague.

      Chow Mondo

      Goonus.

      Red-
Did the Natural Bridge really fall in the ocean,
or did the Sporter kinda/sorta just “fall”
      into it, knocking it down?

    10. mayan_moons on March 22nd, 2007 1:38 pm

I harken back to Scott Peterson when after almost 4 months he was confident that Laci & Conner’s body’s would never surface and he had gotton away with murder.

The San Franisco Bay area had a storm more violent than it ever had and within a day of that storm Laci & child washed ashore. It was the hand of God that reached out to overturn the bottom of the bay so that Scott’s lies and monstrous deeds would come back to crush him.

    11. mayan_moons on March 22nd, 2007 1:42 pm

The day before that storm i thought….much to my dismay that Scott had gotton away with murder…..and the next day it all came crashing down arround Scott.

Thats the way its going to happen for you Jurine and your papa too.

Little-known fact about Aruba: hurricane Ivan came close enough to Aruba to cause wind damage and high tides. So much for that whole ‘Aruba is out of the hurrican corridor’ myth. 100 more miles south and…whammo.

Not that I’m hoping for that to happen this year or anything.

      JORAN VAN DER SLOOT

of Natalee Holloway / A CURRENT AFFAIR – UNCUT

“It’s All About TELLING THE TRUTH,

      Knowing When To Walk Away,

      …And Just When To Run:”

*these quotes are from THE CURRENT AFFAIR INTERVIEW – NO EDITS, snipped together, to illuminate J-BO’s story better*

      Again-

      ALL IN THE SAME
      INTERVIEW

      —-

Reporter: But, she is going through so much personal pain. I mean the thing is, the problem is, she doesn’t know what happened to her daughter.

Joran van der Sloot: Yes, and neither do I. So, what more do you want me to do? I told the truth. I know she knows the truth. (beth) And, I know she read most of the statements in the case and, yes, that is all.

      -

Joran van der Sloot: I am not afraid. Afraid is a bad statement to use. I just don’t…. I understand (hearing) from people, “You lied, you must be hiding something.” But, I am not hiding anything, but, I know only time will tell that. Then the truth will come out.

      -

Joran van der Sloot: In my heart, I feel bad, of course, because myself, I don’t know what happened and that bothers me a lot. And I just hope that everything comes out and I can have rest, too. I can sleep better at night also

      -

Reporter: What are your memories of Natalee like?

Joran van der Sloot: I don’t really have that many memories. I mean, I knew her for one night. I feel stupid…I feel horrible that I even went out that night without my father knowing. I should’ve just stayed home and this would not have happened to me.

It would’ve happened to another person. I try to look at it, that I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe even with the wrong people.

And I just hope that the truth comes out. That this comes to some clarity in this case.

      -

Reporter: I mean what happened that night? Why don’t you tell me what happened, just a little bit?

Joran van der Sloot: First of all, it is none of your business what happened. That is an investigation, which is still going on.

      -

Reporter: Well, I think if you can explain to people what really happened, and you were really forthcoming, the more forthcoming you are, the more chance there will be for you to get on with your life.

Joran van der Sloot: One day, I will explain exactly what happened, but, right now, I don’t feel ready to do that.

      -

Reporter: So, you are saying that lying was your worst crime?

      Joran van der Sloot: Yeah.

Reporter: Now, lying is a crime isn’t it? When you interfere with a police investigation?

Joran van der Sloot: Lying.. I don’t think lying is a crime. Lying is probably not ethical, but it is not a crime.

Reporter: If you interfere with a police investigation?

Joran van der Sloot: If you interfere with a police investigation it is still not a crime.

      -

Joran van der Sloot: Well, because, obviously, all of us lied. We agreed to lie. I was the first one that changed my story. I don’t think they liked that, so they changed their story. And it, eventually everything went towards the truth

      -

      end

(and now, dat is de truth)

    21. Miss-Underestimated on March 22nd, 2007 4:03 pm

Wow that’s gonna hurt the tourism. Ah well, evil promotes evil. Karma, goes around comes around, etc.

      DING DING DING

      WTF IS ARUBA WAITING FOR.

Joran van der Sloot: One day, I will explain exactly what happened, but, right now, I don’t feel ready to do that.

Oh ABSOLUTELY, Red. @ #14 LOL

Ya see Natalee and the Holloway family would
have come to Aruba with the
      C4 explosives to do
      the Natural Bridge job
      MUCH sooner…

      but… Well, I’ll be a pig in a poke,

JUG & BETH & DAVE… THEY’Z helpin’ Bush clandestinely via the high-speed “Finer Optimal Internets,” and all.

‘cuz ‘cuz ‘cuz 9-11 happened, ya see, & they had to help

GW fly the all the planes and stuff, and raise the price of

      oil globally.

      That’s why Nat didn’t visit

      ARUBA until SUMMER of 2005!

      … they’z bizzy-n-alllll equalizin’ the

price of oil & get’n that Bush

      feller re-elected in the OH-FER!

Had to await roughly 4 more damn years

for Beth & Jug to bring that damn

Natural Bridge down! coo coo coooooo

      NOW WHO SAYS THE ‘MERICANOS
      AREN’T PATIENT FELLERS?

Joran van der Sloot: Lying.. I don’t think lying is a crime. Lying is probably not ethical, but it is not a crime.

PROBABLY not ethical? How about the fact that lying is NOT ethical when interfering with police investigation of a real human being!

i guess aruba’s tourism dept. will be giving us the truth about this “shakin an rattlin” going on. the reasons under consideration so far are: “anita dropped her bra”. or “we’re testing a new island wide ride that beats all of disney world”, or “beth ran a stolen sub into the cliffs, but has been captured and will be charged within 24 hours,” or “hugo and nelson were just testing their joint nuclear capability”, and ending with the pronouncement that “all repairs to the cracks in the airport runways will be repaired immediately and is perfectly safe”. they’ll probably decide which “truth” tonight at the ahata’s nightly bong swap and circle jerk. stand by for latest details.

Yes, I would hate to own a timeshare in Aruba, Earthquakes and Tsunamis are considered acts of God, and probably are not covered well by Insurance. This case has just become one big joke to Aruba and the “island lovers”. But, he who laughs last laughs best. I hope they can remember that line as they are sinking, and blowing bubbles in the ocean on the way down.

On the morning of May 31, 2005 Beth and Jug Twitty were
informed that Deepak’s vehicle had been seen inside the
fence of the Van der Sloot’s property. As their group waited in the parking lot of the police station prior to going to the Van der Sloot’s residence, Art Wood suspects that Paulus was forewarned that Natalee’s parents were on the way to his place. His reasoning is based on the fact that Deepak’s vehicle was no longer inside the fence when the group arrived half an hour later. If a call was placed from within the police station to the Van der Sloots residence, could this be considered preferential treatment?

ART WOOD: The Sloots were probably tipped-off when the
family group stopped at the Noord Police Station to wait for Charles Croes, Alberto Groeneveld and Claudio Eldridge to return from the VDS residence.

      2/2006 PRIMETIME JORAN INTERVIEW ABC

Joran van der Sloot: Still making sense. The only thing she said that didn’t make
sense was about wanting to see sharks. And she told me, she was talking about her mom,
and she told me her mom was Hitler’s sister.

      Interviewer: What does that mean?

Joran van der Sloot: I have no clue what that means, and I don’t know what it
      means and . . .

Interviewer: Was it part of a conversation, or was it . . .

Joran van der Sloot: No, it was a, it came up. I don’t remember how it came up.

(he doesn’t remember how it came up, because it is fictional and didn’t take place)

She said it. (then he has to riterate it, lies need good branding, a lot of reinforcement)

And it’s been actually – one of her friends has actually told the police as
well that while they were together, she told her the same thing.

(A 17 Year Old Punk With A Fresh Mouth Who Is Allowed To Read A.L.E. POLICE REPORTS, people puh-leeze.)

Interviewer: How did you take it?

Joran van der Sloot: I took it strangely. I mean, why would you say something like that? And I thought she was joking, so I was laughing. But she told me she was serious.

Interviewer: You keep driving, you get to the lighthouse.

Joran van der Sloot: No, we never went to the lighthouse. (ABC PRIMETIME LIVE 2/2006)

Interviewer: So then, where did the plan change?

Joran van der Sloot: So then I asked her, ‘do you want to go to your hotel?”
And she said, ‘no, no, no, I don’t want to go to the hotel.’ So then I was thinking,
okay, so where do I take her?

(WHERE DO I TAKE HER, OR WHERE DO WE TAKE HER, JORAN. WHERE IS YOUR BRAIN DURING THIS STATEMENT?
KEEP YOUR PRONOUNS STRAIGHT BOY, YOU POS.)

So then we went to the beach right next to her hotel.

That makes sense, thanks for clearly that up.

    76. vicki on March 24th, 2007 1:34 pm

75_ Did you mean clearing that up? or is clearly what u wanted to say???? New Orleans was hit but what happened there was the MANMADE DAMS that broke. Duh…I dont see Niagra Falls drying up, or the grand canyon shrinking….the tide is turning yoyo, get used to it.

#75 I wonder what horrors Indonesians conspired to commit that caused the great tidal wave over two years ago that killed over 100k persons. Must have been some ‘big sin’ for that kind of wrath.

#76 no ‘man made dams’ broke. man made levees did — as a direct causal relationship to the hurricane Katrina.

Given Katrina, followed by hurricane Rita (and preceeded by Andrew, Hugo, et al), earthquakes, tornados, and other US bound natural disasters, one would think the ‘tide is turning’ against the good ol USA.

BTW, vicki, back in April 1998, the Birmingam area was hit with a series of tornados (one of them on the then F5 scale) that killed over 30 persons, injured scores, and caused $$millions of property damage. Given your apparent position, and that of others, was GOD punishing Alabamians?

Think about it. A relatively insignificant earthquake in Aruba that apparently caused no loss of life balanced against an Alabama tornado killing 30+. Using your logic, one would presume that Alabmaians were more ‘sinful’ than Arubans.

But, maybe we are — historic lynching of blacks (over 200 unsolved, uninvestigated with participation by the policia), scores of unsolved murders, AL firms conducting business in Aruba, ad nauseum.

#82 What does the response by the US military have to do with any of the disasters (save for providing help and assistance)?

You, apprently, and others have said/implied that some divine intervention caused the Aruban earthquake in response to Nat.

I stated clearly that by your and other’s implication, the same divine intervention caused Katrina, Rita, Hugo, Alabama (’98) tornadoes, etc.

My question is simply, what ‘sin’ did the victims/nation-states of these tragedies commit to suffer such a divine intervention?

If the Aruba earthquake is Karma or whatever, then I would suggest that earthquakes, hurricaines, tornadoes within the US and the Indonesian tsunomi are Karma. In that case, Indonesians must have really done something bad.

BTW, the response to these tragedies by the US military is not germane to their respective cause.

    86. Ronnie2shues on March 24th, 2007 5:38 pm

Incidentally, on April 29, 2003, Alabama experienced a magnitude 4.6 earthquake centered around Ft. Payne. )http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/eq_depot/2003/eq_030429/). Obviously, a bit stronger than that hitting Aruba.

Hmmmmm, I wonder if Alabama tourism officials will ‘conveniently’ ignore THAT occurrence?

    87. Carpe Noctem on March 24th, 2007 6:39 pm

85- It was ‘others’ … I did not suggest anybody
deserved anything from a Supreme Being.

      BUT

I just like to point out that US Military, US Corporations,
and US Non-for-profits, at least do provide help in terrible tragedies just like New Orleans & Indonesia. While many times, people such as yourself sit behind their computers screens and yank themselves, making a career out of debating about HOW MUCH DID THE AMERICANS HELP? WHAT ARE THEIR REASONS FOR DOING IT, & COULD THE USA HAVE HELPED MORE?

There are 4.5 quakes every single day in other parts of the world, especially around the ring of fire which includes the western United States. Why don’t you people pick up a damn seismology book instead of talking nonsense on the net? Why open your mind to more about how things work instead of chanting about what some God (who definitely has lots of followers here) would do against one island over one case?

Most of you probably suspect that Joran killed
her. Give her body back to her family and we

we will not give up the fight. Aruba sucks.

    104. texasmom on January 13th, 2010 11:14 pm

      Very well stated Magnolia!

Americans and people all over the world will NEVER FORGET Natalee Holloway or the FACT that those who were last seen with her are seemingly above the law in Aruba.

The corrupt officials involved in the investigation into Natalee Holloway’s disappearance will be discussed at every mention of Aruba for MANY years to come.

The prime suspect and HIS FATHER will be discussed at the mere mention of the island of Aruba for MANY years to come.

Since someone mentioned connections in the Government…

How many Arubans would be entitled to a sitting Judge answering the door for them when ALE knocks to serve a search warrant? How many Arubans are allowed to drive themselves in to the police station when they are under arrest?

And the list goes on and on!

If Natalee’s family had the connections that the paid liars claim they do, they’d have Natalee back. Period.

What ever happened with that investigation into Jan Van der Straaten and the first 10 days? Amigoe reported several weeks ago that the investigation was complete. Why not a single word about it since?

Natalee had every right to celebrate her graduation with her classmates, and to come home safe and sound just like the rest of them did.

She didn’t come home with them because she was targeted and she was not the first…nor will she be the last.

Crime against tourists, and the truth about any tourist death in Aruba will continue to be covered up. It has been proven over and over in the past four and a half years that tourism is far more important than humanity on that island.

Aruba has a huge crime problem. If you choose to travel there, it is at your own risk.

Dutch soldiers don’t even feel safe there!

      Soldiers feel unsafe in Aruba
      Published: December 18, 2009 – 2:34 pm | by Editor Caribiana

Families of Dutch soldiers in Aruba feel increasingly unsafe by the surge in crime on the island. Two years back was the commander of the marines base Savaneta raised the alarm, but security of Defense have so far been forthcoming. Marine Staff begins Aruba therefore avoid.

The rising number of burglaries in Aruba. One in three Marines houses has been visited by thieves. The military in Aruba want Defense to 51 houses, of alarms and motion sensors, which attackers remotely to keep. Sergeant Charles Meier is concerned about the safety of his family when he was on exercise. “That leaves the other half behind.”

snip (read the rest at the link)

I have traveled outside of the United States and will continue to do so, but Aruba will not be one of my travel destinations.

All of you Arubans that want to point a finger at the U. S. every time the Natalee Holloway case is mentioned…just remember…every time you point that finger, three of your other fingers point right back at you!

It makes me laugh to hear people condem a whole island of people for one girls death. Natalie’s death was very sad but she is partly to blame. You have to use your God given brain and not put yourself into that situation. (Gee I am an 18 year old blond girl. Let’s go to a foreign land get drunk and expect nothing to happen) It’s strange how some condem all Aruba yet 30,000+ murders happen in America every year and no one even blinks an eye. I guess the evil one Stalin was right when he said: “One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic”

One wonders how much interest there would still be in Natalie’s murder if she were not a pretty young blond. I say zero.

How to tell you are reading a post from an Aruban Troll.

      - None of them can spell correctly. Even grade school words get slaughtered!

      Ex:

“Just got back from Aruba…. The people of Aruba are winderfullllll!!!”

WINDERFULLLLLLL = WONDERFUL? Who knows. I don’t even think they know what they mean most of the time… or perhaps they’re just drunk whilst typing.

      - Many times they type broken sentences and their
word phrasing does not make much sense.

It makes sense to an Aruban! Their brains are a little different than ours. That’s what happens
frequently when you are raised in a one room crack den with chickens walking around
on a dirt floor for you to play with.

Just smile, pretend to understand, throw them a
dog bone with some meat still on it… it will
throw them off track a bit because they will want
to go bury it somewhere on the island before some choller (drug dealer) tries to mug them for it… then you can go on about your business as planned.

ENJOY ARUBA! HOME OF THE WINNER.

      god is still in charge
and the people from aruba are godloving people
      they won’t be punished
we love our god and our virgin mary
      and that is all

This is to all those people on this site wishing those ugly things to happen to my island. Don’t forget that God is watching and knows what happened. He says don’t judge for ye not to be judged. Maybe that’s why you guys get all the tragedies your are getting? See the latest about the tsunami’s and the 9/11 case for starters. Maybe it’s because you are all too perfect?

Aruba has people even working with the NASA. What most Arubans already forgot, some of you have yet to learn.
But, may you all be blessed!!!
      ______________
SM: Maybe not, a bunch of NASA folks were just laid off.

Lol, people are trolling against an island in the name of a missing/dead girl. No wonder the world hates America everywhere I go…(Am actually one of the few who defends americans)

If America want’s to talk about justice, ask themselves why places like africa and the middle east are in so much pain and suffering. All america did in the past was exploit the natural resources of other countries in the best interest of themselves. America promoted war by selling weapons to the black market and using construction companies to rebuild things they themselves destroyed. Not to mention the everyday use products we buy for cheap prices at the cost of other poor countries hard work. I could go on forever etc…

@Carpe Funny how a single language speaking person tries to make fun of other peoples english skills who can speak and write more languages then you…LOL. We speak 4 and some of us write english allot better then some of your southern population.

Virginia, japan also got hit by Earthquake, Haiti also. Are you saying they deserved it too somehow?

Aruba didn’t get a scratch out of the earthquake anyways LOL. So, you can keep wishing the worse for others, it may bounce right back in your face LOLOLOLOLOL…

It’s a shame to see the idiotic americans making a foul in the name of their country. I pity the educated americans who have to deal with these idiots on a daily basis.

“UNEMPLOYED ILLITERATE ARUBANS HAVE A LOT OF FREE TIME TO BLOG.

When they aren’t raping people and disposing of bodies.”

We are ILLITERATE, yet somehow the average aruban we still speak more languages then you. I will agree with the free time :P

we rape? Wikipedia thinks otherwise jajajaja…

SM: Wow, you better research your facts. Africa was colonized and exploited by Europe my dear son, not America.

So your saying the US didn’t have anything to with exploiting resources in Africa together with Europe? Since you didn’t mention anything about the middle east I will assume you agree :P

Just because Europe is also responsible in the past, doesn’t make America any less responsible now.

      The point is…

There is a saying in Aruba, If your roof is made out of glass, don’t trow stones.

America should know better than to be pointing fingers. They should fix the countless unresolved crimes that goes around in their own country before pointing any fingers at any other country with a lower crime rate per capita.

Not to mention, condemning 110,000 innocent people thanks to the act of 1 individual.

I guess 9/11 was also justice? is that what all of you are saying? Should the innocent pay for the injustice committed by the few?

I will agree that our justice system is flawed, if so, even so, it’s not like America has a perfect system justice system either. If it’s true, then that might explain why OJ Simpson is free.

SM: Get real, this argument was made 4 years ago and no one really cares to rehash it. Boy aren’t you late to the game. You would compare a 100,000 people to a country with 300 million. Get a clue. It was not the act of one, it was the act of a correct police, tourism and govt. Many more than just Joran was involved that is why it was a successful cover up.

Aruba is not a country, its a vacation spot that claims its safe, yet cares less about prosecuting killers, only sweeping their problems under the carpet.

BTW, OJ ain’t free, he is in prison.

      http://scaredmonkeys.com/2008/10/04/oj-simpson-guilty-on-all-charges-in-sports-memorabilia-robbery-in-vegas-the-glove-fit/

Jury nullification is hardly a state sponsored cover up. And OJ was found guilty in the civil trial.

Waaaaaaw, sad, angry and so righteous human beings.
When Casey Anthony (an american)was being prosecuted for the murder of her daughter, we, in the Dutch Caribbean were spell bound to the US news and followed this case daily, as many others all over the world. When she was aqcuitted, we too were outraged. Did we condemn the whole of the USA? No, just her and yes we questioned your justice sytem too. Your country is no less flawed than ours. Intelligent people know the difference. What are you? And by the way. Aruba is a country! Small, but a country nevertheless. And yes SM, we all speak at least 4 languages fluently. I hope that’s ok?
