Missing Claude Van Tassel: Sometimes a Coffee Break is Meant to Last a Lifetime

71 year old and father of 12, Claude Van Tassel, as been missing for 5 years. The Coffeecupantique auctioneer from Maine disappeared 5 years ago after stating to his wife he was going to get a cup of coffee. However, sometimes going to get a coffee means something quite different.

He was found just recently in Allentown, PA … but there is a catch.

Not until last Thursday, when the 71-year-old was found alive and well in Pennsylvania, after being traced through an FBI database. His family, including wife Beatrice, were notified but they are not any closer to having Claude back in their lives.

He was found by the FBI last week after submitting a rental application.(Fosters Daily Democrat)

Claude Van Tassel was missing because he wanted to be and he has no plans of returning home. A married father of 12 and a grandfather of 17 just up and left with no care or concern in the world. How does someone just not have the common decency to state that he wants to just walk away so that no one has to worry over one’s health, where they are or if they are dead? What a piece of work this guy must have been to live with for 38 years.

His wife, Beatrice, 68, said she does not know why her husband of 38 years would just leave her and their family so suddenly or why he would choose to move to Allentown since he has no family or friends in the city, that she knows of.

”I am sick of it,” she said. ”He has several children and 17 grandchildren who are worried. We were worried sick thinking he was dead, and now we are hearing that he does not want to be bothered with us. This hurts.”

What a way to find out that your loved one who you were so concerned about really feels. I bet many people where he presently lives are looking at this guy in a completely different way. Who just abandons their family? One thing id for certain for Beatrice Van Tassel, hell as no fury like a woman’s scorn.

”He doesn’t want anyone bothering him, so why are we going to look for him?” she said. ”Why would I want him?” (The Morning Call)

You don’t know Mainers (DownEasters, or Mainiacs, as they’re also called). They can be as stubborn like nothing else you’ve ever seen. And when a grudge is involved, there is no limit.

Maybe Nat ‘went to get a cup of coffee.” Wouldn’t that be something?

#2 … I was waiting for someone to make such a comment.

No … kind of tough to go for a cup of coffee on an Island where you have no idea where the Starbucks is.

She’ll be better off without hom. If he had the capabilities to hurt his family like that, he is not worthyof them.

There are real men and there are spolied rotten brats pretending to be men. Mr. Claude falls in the latter, how could he do this to his family? I’d tell him to stay away for good.

      #2 Glad I didn’t disappoint.

We should not forget the numerous friendly connections among the MB folks (including the “steps”) and Arubans. Whether we like it or not, the connections existed, thus making it a little less like having “no idea where the Starbucks is located.
