PATRIOT ACT: SD Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson Upset & Sour Grapes with NE Victory Celebration

San Diego Charge RB, LaDainian Tomlinson, is supposed to be one of the stand up guys in the NFL. He is supposed to be a man of character and classy. Of course when making that statement with athletes today one wonders what the standard is that we are using?  The New England Patriots upset the 12–4 San Diego Charges 24–21 in yesterdays AFC playoff game. I guess they upset LT as well. Its one thing to be upset in the heat of a game or just after a tough loss. However, to continue to whine is a bit much. LT, you lost … enough. No, it probably wasn’t the best thing in the world for the Pat’s to do, but neither is you constant whining. I thought you said you had class?

Several New England players hurled their helmets into the air and danced on the middle of the field in celebration, incurring a meaningless 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and the wrath of San Diego star rusher Tomlinson. “I would never, ever react in that way,” Tomlinson said. “I’m a very classy person and I would not have reacted like that. I was very upset.” (Breitbart)

You know what they say LT when you have to tell people you are classy?

LT, there is a thing called losing graciously as well. No one except Patriot fans though they would win this game. As a matter of fact, all the football pundits had pretty much already given the Vince Lombardi trophy to the Chargers. That being said, LT, there was one was to prevent the Patriot players from celebrating and “Dis-respecting” you, so to speak.

“When you go to the middle of our field and you start doing the dance that Shawne Merriman is known for, that’s disrespectful. It showed no class at all and maybe that comes from their coach,” Tomlinson said. “I wasn’t going to go do anything, just tell the guys not to disrespect us on our own field. When you start to further disrespect us, that’s just not how you react.” “Just disappointment, that’s the initial thought,” Tomlinson said. “When you are a three-time Super Bowl champion I wouldn’t think you would need to act that way. That was the way they reacted to it. We can’t do anything about it.”

LT, you could have done everything about it. You could have “WON THE GAME”. Stop your whining as you are actually beginning to sound worse than over excessive celebration that the Patriots may have done. No one likes a sore loser. I am sure if SD had won the game, the Charger players would have gone nuts. But I guess that’s OK, because you would have won and some how that would be different.

LT, instead of getting mad, upset or think its a sign of disrespect to do Shawne Merriman’s dance on your field … maybe you might get some perspective of life. You should have been more upset at the following:

  • 1. Ever think that the dance Shawne Merriman does on the field is classless and shows disrespect to the opposing team? Hmm?
  • 2. Did it ever dawn on you that you are defending the dance of a man that was suspended during the season for the use of steroids? LT, you don’t think that maybe that might be a bit worse and more classless to cheat and use a banned substance?
  • 3. Maybe you should get mad at your coach Marty Schottenheimer for ridiculously challenging a play that was an obvious fumble and wasting a time out that SD could have used late in the game to get closer for a winning field goal. Remember LT, you had no time outs left when you were trying to tie the game?
  • 4. Maybe getting mad at Drayton Florence for head-butted tight end Daniel Graham and drawing a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that lead to a field goal.
  • 5. Maybe you should get upset at Charge DB, Marlon McCree for interception the 4th down pass and then fumbling it back to the Patriots giving Tom Brady new life.

LT, before you start pointing fingers and judging others you may just want to listen to your own words and hear what you are truly trying to defend. What actions, gyrations, dances, and acts of taunting after ever tackle in the NFL are classy by the way? Are you the judge of what is and is not a classy move? Frankly all of it lacks class including what your own team mates do. So once and for all … put a sock in it.

You could have prevented any of this from happening on your field if you had won the game yourself.

Dang…Cut LT a break. He went a little nutty, so what. He had a hell of a game, and if the receivers could catch, and “Marty Ball” didn’t rear its ugly head, they might have won.
Chargers fan here, but let’s face it, Tom Brady pretty much owns the post season. Nobody better with 2mins left. Nobody.
Hey Colts, Brady’s comin’ to town – Maybe next year.

i remember when NE score was ~ 37 something and the texans had ~ 13 points with 1:30 seconds left in the game. tom brady instead of telling his team to run-the-clock down went to put another 7 points on the board, so he’ll be remembered as a winning coach w/o class.

This is because the Patriots know that when it comes to tie breakers for playoff spots, points for and points against are looked at to make final decisions. Bottom line, the Patriots are a FOOTBALL team. They play the game, they do their job, unlike most teams. Heck, I don’t much like them because I live in St. Louis (I remember a certain Superbowl where we learned about the Pats). But I respect them. Their players are not getting arrested, they are not being suspended. They are just playing the game as it is supposed to be played.

LT: if your own team mate had never started this ridiculous dance, the Pats would never have rubbed salt in the wound. I have to admit LT is a classy player and any team would be very lucky to have him but somebody had to lose. never count the Pats out but GO SAINTS !

      Here’s my main point.

Most of the antics that football players do is disrespectful. Whether it be after a sack, an interception or a tackle. It has got to the point where players need to show off after a tackle. Isn’t that what they are paid for? So for LT to go on and on with this nonsense is BS.

There comes a point where he just needs to shut up.

Do any of us think that SD players were not talking trash during the game? Oh, I guess the Charger players were playing be the “Queen’s” rules. Please.

I come from a sports background where I was told to “act like you have been there” so I get his point.

However, because 4 or 5 players did something that he didn’t like that means the whole team and the coach are classless? Those types of generalizations are dangerous.

I guarantee everyone that if SD won that game you would have seen ridiculous dancing going on everywhere on that field, in the stands, you name it. I an sure LT would have been fine with that.

LT made the comment in the press conf that “The Patriots further disrespected them”. FURTHER? You mean like winning the game?

Let’s face it … in the heat of battle I can see where he might have over-reacted due to the fact that they all thought they were going to win the game. Going on with it for a second day takes away from the game. That’s all that is going on now as no one is talking about the game.

Move on LT, you play the Patriots next year in Foxboro. Let your actions talk, not your mouth.

However, by the over-reaction of emotion by LT and some of the SD players during the game one begins to see how NE won the game. They won the psychological battle.

I think it is the people of rap, if that can be proven through DNA? I’m sure?

New England has won every time they have played a conference number one seed during Belichek’s tenure, so I think if there is anybody in the NFL worthy of respect, it is Belichek’s (12-1 playoffs) Patriots:

      2001: Steelers, Rams
      2004: Steelers, Eagles
      2006: Chargers

LT is obviously still in shock that their supercharged team buckled under the mental duress of the Patriot’s never-dead demeanor. I think mentioning “poor sportsmanship” once is understandable, but now that he’s sort of droning on and on about it like some schoolyard bully who’s been one-upped really demonstrates the profundity of his childish world view. I’m glad the Pats took him down a couple of pegs.

    9. Scared Monkeys on January 16th, 2007 12:25 pm

      Nick ,,, agreed.

At this point LT is just making an issue out of nothing to hide the fact that the San Diego Chargers lost.

The questions from reporters should be how did you lose, not how you were dissed. This is football, not a soap opera.

LT on his soap box about sportsmanship. What a joke when your star player Merriman was busted for steroids. Now there’s some sportsmanship … no cheating there.

Take care of your own house first LT, before casting stones.

There are too many morons with nothing better to do than bash on the best football player to ever play the game. LT. Anyone who says LT is a sore loser must be a mongoloid. He was pissed cause the Pats were rubbing it in AFTER THE GAME. It’s one thing to celebrate during the game. But to mock your opponent after the game is BS. Especially a close hard fought playoff heartbreaker like that. It was a good game, the Patriots earned the victory by outplaying my Bolts. Why act like a child and taunt the losing team when the game is over? LT didn’t run his mouth because of the outcome of the game. The loss hurt, trust me. LT was pissed because some of the Patriots showed NO RESPECT. I was actually impressed by how Brady handled himself after the game. Last year when my Chargers completely embarrassed the Patriots in New England, Brady acted like a little fairy by not shaking hands after the game. He went straight to the locker room and cried to the media for the rest of the week. He really caught me off guard by being “classy”.

Yeah, Merriman has his little celebration dance. He usually does it immediately after a sack. Obviously, the patriots did the lights out dance for one reason only. To taunt the Chargers and stir some emotion. Well, it worked.
So what if Shawne Merriman did steroids. Big Deal. I don’t care. It has nothing to do with LT. You must really be desperate to bring up old irrelevant stuff.

I have some answers to your idiotic questions
      *
      1. Ever think that the dance Shawne Merriman does on the field is classless and shows disrespect to the opposing team? Hmm?
      *

No retard. He does his dance to celebrate sacks during the game. He has never done the dance after the game to piss off the other team. Did I mention that you are a retard??

      2. Did it ever dawn on you that you are defending the dance of a man that was suspended during the season for the use of steroids? LT, you don’t think that maybe that might be a bit worse and more classless to cheat and use a banned substance?
      *
You are also a loser. What do you suggest LT should
do? Retire?? maybe he should have kicked merrimans ass. TOO MANY FOOTBALL PLAYERS DO STEROIDS. Merriman just got caught. I hope you get genital herpes of the face.

      3. Maybe you should get mad at your coach Marty Schottenheimer for ridiculously challenging a play that was an obvious fumble and wasting a time out that SD could have used late in the game to get closer for a winning field goal. Remember LT, you had no time outs left when you were trying to tie the game?
      *
So now you are suggesting that LT should start acting like TO? Do us all a favor. Choke on mung.

      4. Maybe getting mad at Drayton Florence for head-butted tight end Daniel Graham and drawing a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that lead to a field goal.

It’s a good thing you reminded LT who to be mad at. I’m sure he couldn’t figure it out on his own.
      *
      5. Maybe you should get upset at Charge DB, Marlon McCree for interception the 4th down pass and then fumbling it back to the Patriots giving Tom Brady new life.

I understand being mad at Florence. He used poor judgement after the whistle on a crucial play. But McCree was trying to make a play. He shouldn’t have caught it, let alone run with it. He was caught up in the excitement trying to make a play. Florence should have been cut right there on the spot

      CHARGERS FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      F— the Raiders

      ___________

SM: And here we have the voice of intelligent reason calling others names who disagree with their “homer” point of view. To say that the Patriots as a team are classless is as moronic a statement as can be made. There is a word for it when you judge an entity by the actions of a few. To use the same comparison,   guess we should think that all Chargers do steroids because of Merrimen. That would be foolish. By the way where was Merrimen is that game other than one play?

First let’s just say that all excessive celebration, sack dances are ridiculous and idiotic. They are prodcuts of the media that give these players the time of day showing this stupidity. These types of celebrations are TAUNTING. What would one expect to happen when one loses? Its the age old addage, put up or shut up.

Of course LT had a right to be upset in the heat of the moment. Played sports … been there. LT’s problem is he would not shut up about it.

The point that anyone else can see other than a Charger fan who would look the other way if a player broke rules, say steroids, is that LT was frustrated and had no one else to blame but his team and coach.

I have never disliked the Chargers. Loved them with Dan Fouts and Air Corryel.

Please, however, do not tell me that the actions of 5 players set the tone or class of an entire team, thats BS. All football has become these days is gutter trash talking all game long. That’s classy.

LT lashed out at the opposing team because he knew he couldn’t do it towards his own, obviously.

LT is supposed to be one of the good guys of football; however, true character comes out in defeat not when one is scoring 31 TD’s and has the best record in football.
