I remember Gerald Ford Well.A great man and role model. The example Norman Rockwell had in mind, with A Scout Is Brave.
He was a great man. God bless him and Betty.
The Wall Street Journal had a good piece on Ford the other day on the editorial page, saying he ‘played a weak hand very well’. Ford had inflation and unemployment down to levels not seen for several years under Nixon. He had a good cabinet. He restored a lot of the public’s confidence in the office of the Presidency. We would have been a much stronger country if he had beaten Carter, who I think was the worst President in my lifetime (and I’m old enough to have once cheered on Eisenhower in a farewell parade). The country always goes for the outsider when the economy isn’t doing well, or if there is some media-flamed crisis afoot. Reagan beat Carter. Clinton beat GHWBush. GWBush beat Gore.
But when Carter beat Ford, it was mainly a case of the Democrats and most independent voters just not being able to forgive Ford for pardoning Nixon. I voted for him, and would vote for him again today if her were no older than, say, McCain.
Ford was a great man. He brought our nation back together.
