Amigoe, October 31, 2006: Lawsuit against the Netherlands
ORANJESTAD – If by this Friday the Netherlands does not change her position regarding the foreign loans, the Aruban government will take them to court. The relations between the countries got this worse that Aruba will not be present at the governmental deliberations on the new political relations within the Kingdom this Wednesday.
Premier Nelson Oduber already announced last week that if the Netherlands continues to stand by the conditions regarding the foreign loans, he would lodge an internal appeal.
The government’s position is now, that if the Federal Council of Ministers does not approve the 50 million dollars loan of the Deutsch Bank, Aruba will go to court and also claim compensation for the damages caused by canceling the loan.
‘The Netherlands has made us autonomous in 1954 and Aruba alone at the Round Table Conference in 1983. And now in 2006, the Netherlands wants to colonize us again”, said Oduber. Last week Monday, Minister Atzo Nicolaà ¯ invited Aruba to attend the governmental deliberation on the new relations within the Kingdom as observer. This two-day deliberation starts Wednesday in The Hague. The Minister Plenipotentiary was going to do this at first, but he has meanwhile cancelled.

Are the people of Aruba against colonization? I can understand their desire for independence, just as Puerto Rico has voted not to become a U.S. state. However, their economy is tanking; perhaps more oversight by The Netherlands is in order. There does seem to be a degree of Us vs. Them (Arubans vs. Dutch) going on over there – the Dutch being the ones with real power – while Arubans are the second-class citizens. Hopefully some Aruban and/or Dutch posters will offer some insights.

It’s true that Aruba was very slow to respond to the crisis of a missing tourist. When Dave Holloway arrived in Aruba, the police all knew of Americans going to the crackhouses, but did not know there was a missing American girl. When pictures were taken of Joran in KIA, judges, attorneys, and citizens were out in force within hours. Another example of their priorities. Sure makes Hawaii, Orlando, Las Vegas and Montreal look like good places to travel.
With all of this fighting going on I wonder if the Queen will still visit LIERUBA? Can someone tell us what happened to arubasteve????Bizarre the way people go missing on that “happy” place.

This sounds like a spoiled kid sueing his parents because they cut of his allowance for mis-behaving. Priceless.
I sure hope this peeves the Dutch to no end. Their little island is becoming more and more of an annoyance to them every day. Remember, in the 1990s (I forget the year) the Dutch actually went into Curacao and kicked out the people who were running the financial end.
That’s right; they decided that it was so corrupt that Curacao couldn’t be trusted to oversee its own finances.
Let’s hope the Dutch come to their senses, realize the bunch of clowns, buffoons, drug dealers and outright scum who are in charge of Aruba (this is not intended to be a slur toward Arubaanse or any other of our Aruban friends here) … and TAKE OVER THE LAW ENFORCEMENT. AND GET ANSWERS FOR NATALEE’S FAMILY AND ALL OTHER AMERICANS.
Hey, if Aruba wins this suit … think Paulus vdScum will go to court saying that he deserves a bigger reward?

Having received a stamp of non approval from the Deutsch Bank, if they do refinance through another source can you imagine the interest rate and required asset pledge (collateral )? Again Aruba, these people are not in the BUSINESS of charity toward Aruba. The current credit rating for Aruba looks like Collections ahead not prosperity.

I don’t see the Dutch / Aruba ever allowing “legal” justice for Natalee. They are never going to admit what they did to her or where she is. They are never going to give the family justice. What they don’t realize is they are screwed either way.
If they admit that they drugged, repeatedly raped an American woman to the point of death then disposed of her body as though it were trash then allowed and paid off the government officials to cover it up, can you imagine the publicity? If they continue to lie and cover the crimes against Natalee and never give the family closure, they are still screwed.
In my personal opinion…and they are too stupid and arrogant to realizse this…admitting what happened to Natalee and prosecuting the guilty individuals would at least put closure to the case and at some point, it will go away…for the most part. However, the continued lies and cover up will never allow this to go away. It will hang over them like the plague forever. We are NOT going away Aruba until you do the right thing.

True autonomy comes with self-sufficiency. Self-determination springs from self-reliance. And being self-reliant means, among other things, assuming responsibility for your debts, and not asking others to be your guarantor without assurances of a particular outcome.
As long as Aruba relies on The Netherlands’s contributions for its survival and as long as the island continues to feed on Holland without giving anything back, it will not become independent.
But before achieving “total freedom”, Aruba should think twice about what it wishes, and give consideration to the alternative definitions of independence it wants to apply to itself: the concept of freedom desired by an enslaved society or the more contemporary concept of freedom, where a society develops within an organized production economy by means of which its citizens can freely earn a living, educate their children, accumulate savings for the future, live in peace and prosper.

Linda, at least if what you’re saying is true, that shows that Aruba is wising up. Maybe the Aruban government is beginning to draw a connection between its treatment of the Holloway Twitty family and its absence of tourists.
Since Nelson Oduber came out publicly and said, in an interview with a Dutch newspaper, that he wanted the case closed as soon as possible, it could be that the Dutch have given a quiet cue that it had better not be closed prematurely … that doing so might blow up in some people’s faces. And that some people face jail time.
Let’s hope, very hard.

The Netherlands still approved Aruban loans
ORANJESTAD — The dispute between Aruba and the Netherlands on the foreign loans is
over for the time being. Yesterday around 15:00, minister Atzo Nicolaà ¯ (VVD) called
Premier Nelson Oduber (MEP) on the phone, telling him that he will advice the Federal
Council of Ministers tomorrow to approve Aruba’s loan of 50 million dollars.
Oduber together with minister Rudi Croes (MEP) of Justice and Nilo Swaen (MEP) of
Finance and Economic Affairs were about to leave for the Netherlands that same evening to
talk to the Federal Council of Ministers about foreign loans. The reason for not going
alone was that Oduber wanted to lodge an internal appeal if the Federal Council of
Ministers (Dutch government) continues to hold on the conditions regarding Aruba’s
foreign loans.
Based on article 12, sub 3 of the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a country can
lodge an internal appeal if the Federal Council of Ministers does not agree on a matter.
After the positive telephone call of Nicolaà ¯, the three ministers cancelled their trip to the
Netherlands. Oduber says that Nicolaà ¯ also indicated that he has advised his
colleague-minister Gerrit Zalm (VVD) of Finance to drop the conditions attached to
Aruba’s foreign loans.
The relationship between Aruba and the Netherlands were clouded when Aruba wanted to
borrow 50 million dollars from the Deutsche Bank. The bank turned the loan request
down, because the Netherlands didn’t sign. Zalm indicated that the conditions in article
29 of the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands should also apply to all loans that
Aruba contracts. Currently, those conditions only apply to financial loans that Aruba
contracts with financial institutions outside the Kingdom.
