Aruban Budget Cuts Affect Building Requirements at KIA … Think the Natalee Holloway legacy is not Affecting Aruba?

Arubans, think your financial woes are not a result of a post Natalee Holloway world? YouKIA better think again. Your government officials can point to every excuse under the sun; however, all of your problems began on May 29, 2005 … “This Can’t Be Good For Tourism, Where’s Natalee Holloway”. There comes a point and time where people must stand up and demand answers. This situation is not going away. All the predictions that it would have been miserably wrong.

It first begins with a horrible injustice done to a tourist visiting Aruba and her family. Then it continues with tourists not visiting Aruba upset at the matter. It further continues with even more tourists not going to Aruba as they are outraged by the manner in how an investigation was done and how a family was treated. As tourism declines, so to does the money spent in Aruba and in turn the tax revenues generated decline to the government. The government budgets for social programs to Arubans are cut as are projects in Aruba.

As tourism dwindles, Arubans are laid off and those businesses that have always depended on tourism suffer. The government has to raise money to maintain their lofty budgets tax the people. As they tax more and more, they also cut projects and look the other way and things that are typically referred to as requirements.

Thus is the case in Aruba where the KIA is the latest to feel the hit from the lack of revenue coming into Aruba.

ARUBA – With the expansion of the KIA and in consideration of the costs, the government has decided not to comply with the building requirements.  The new wards for young prisoners and women do not have an emergency exit.  That became clear at the budget negotiations of the ministry of Justice.

The actions of the budgetary cut at the KIA is a microcosm of what the Aruban government has put forth to the world all during the Natalee Holloway investigation. Money over safety. The Aruban powers that be have learned nothing in 15 months.

The emergency exit was one of the conditions for the issuing of the building permit.  During the budget handling, minister Rudy Croes (MEP) of Justice explained that due to costs, which were 400.000 florins, the emergency exit was not put in.

Once again … money over safety.

Amigoe, September 26, 2006: Cut back on emergency exit KIA  (full article)

ARUBA – With the expansion of the KIA and in consideration of the costs, the government has decided not to comply with the building requirements.  The new wards for young prisoners and women do not have an emergency exit.  That became clear at the budget negotiations of the ministry of Justice.

In connection to this, Monica Kock (MPA) wonders how people can vote for the policy of the Justice-minister, when he himself violates the law.  There will be just one exit when a fire breaks out.

The fire department had demanded an emergency exit for these wards and had even marked the location on the floor plan.

The emergency exit was one of the conditions for the issuing of the building permit.  During the budget handling, minister Rudy Croes (MEP) of Justice explained that due to costs, which were 400.000 florins, the emergency exit was not put in.

Kock cannot understand that for the minister, costs are more important than the safety of the prisoners and the prison personnel.  “The fateful consequences of the fire in the detention center at Schiphol are still fresh in our minds”, said Kock.

“Prisoners and the employees of KIA have the same right on safety.  Apparently, the MEP does not have to obey the law.   The reason why MPA didn’t vote for the policy of minister Croes is more than obvious.”   It’s a shame that it had to take a motion to urge the government to comply with the requirements of the fire department for the KIA.  The Parliament members that were present passed the motion.

Now isn’t that great? Oh – leave out the emergency exits – that’s got to save alot of money – NOT. I cannot for the life of me understand what these people are thinking. pffffttt.

      Just a thought here
Does anyone else think that the leaders in Aruba feel at all ashamed or embaressed about how unintelligent = :revealing or reflecting good judgment or sound thought: they themselves are makeing themselves to appear on the world stage ? Or do they not even care that we have basically ” Pulled Arubas pants down in front of the world ”
and found that they were not wearing any underware.

Love the deserted beach pictures in Diario today. Hmmm…still no clue as to why no tourism? Ask the Sloots…they know why.

    5. Mortella on September 26th, 2006 12:04 pm

      .
Remember recently, within the last year, several prisoners burned to death at a prison near an airport in the Netherlands. Perhaps this is the Schiphol of which she speaks. Yes, they were locked in their cells and could not escape and died in a fire.

Never learn, do they? And what kind of an exit cost that kind of money? How much can a darned door cost? Not 400,000 florins no matter how much the rate of exchange.

After their international scandal with Alex Matthews winning his case in the World Court against the Aruban prison system for his human rights violation, one would think this would be a high priority there. They evidently do not care what the rest of the world thinks of them and their One Crappy Island but I must say that is an odd attitude for a tiny nation dependent on tourism and its image for its livelihood.

That says it in a nutshell.

How do you value life Aruba? No fire exits.

      Aruba,

Soon your beaches will be empty except for the lone sight of Joran cavorting with a girlfriend.

      Won’t you be “proud” then?!

Wise up, Aruba. Word is out and spreading to Europe.
Aruba is on everyone’s “Don’t Go ” list.

    9. Prima on September 26th, 2006 12:47 pm

Well, well, well…. For such a “happy island” why is expansion of the prison necessary in the first place? They claim to have such a low crime rate. Don’t tell me… the prison is filled with tourists LOL

    10. Linda on September 26th, 2006 12:47 pm

      Klaasend..wazzup..hope u are allright!!
Everybody knows that the decrease of tourism is because of this case, and those who do not want to see that or admit that are just STUPID..not that I like it..I mean I have two kids to feed also..but their was never such a decrease in Tourism as now..We had 2,3 or 5% but not this…
Really hope that the Dutch will take it over..not only this case..but everything..the whole police Departement..

    11. Miss-Underestimated on September 26th, 2006 1:01 pm

      Mortella,

This stunt really gives us a birdseye view of the treatment of human life on Aruba. So I guess that gives us a inkling of how Beth, Dave and their family’s were treated by the Aruba authorities.
Geez, if you don’t care about your own, how could you care about anyone else?

I wonder if it crosses Arubas mind to solve this case and bring Natalee home to her family, it may have a monumental cash flow remedy.

Aruba you can always take your own perscribed medicine and go belt a few down at CnC’s and wait for the tourists to show up.

    12. Kris on September 26th, 2006 1:10 pm

More trouble for Lieruba, again caused by the Van Der Sloot Effect on the island.

      Justice for Natalee!

    13. vicki on September 26th, 2006 1:12 pm

#2 that was great jerry, I think they like the world knowing that they dont wear any.
Mortella#5- The powers that bein aruba are not dependant of tourism, so they could give a rats behind if all tourism dried up. They have money because they are filthy drug dealers and smugglers.Soon, noone with half a brain will go to aruba…and maybe just maybe the bad ppl will leave and the good ppl can stay and get their Island back.

    14. Richard on September 26th, 2006 1:32 pm

Well, if the van der Scums or their friends and kith and kin should go in there, no worry … they’ll just let them right out again.

For the rest of them … well, there is no emergency exit to get out of Aruba, either. Looks like more and more people are going to wish that there were.

Reading this makes me think … just suppose there were some catastrophe with a landing plane. Let’s say one of discounter JetBlue, which has just introduced a low-fare flight to and from Aruba. (I’m not meaning to single out JetBlue.)

Does ANYONE think that Aruba would have the personnel, equipment, or knowledge to handle such a horrible event? No way ….

So tell me, JetBlue, do you feel that you’re really representing the “best interests” of your passengers? Remember, Aruba airport has already been declared unsafe.

    15. Libby on September 26th, 2006 2:42 pm

Like I keep saying, the Aruban government doesn’t care. The Aruban government does not care what happens to their people. They would rather see the entire island sink than bring this case to justice. If they pursue justice, it will expose the cover up and the people involved in the cover up as well as what those officials did with Natalee and Natalee’s remains as part of the cover up. It isn’t just about Joran, the K brothers or Paulus. If it were simply limited to those three, I think the case would have been solved long ago. The Aruban officials thought it would just go away and she would soon be forgotten.

That is where we differ Aruba!!! Americans are nothing like you! We will never forget and this will never go away.

    18. JusticeforNatalee on September 26th, 2006 3:29 pm

      Linda,

      Good wishes to you!

Aruban authorities just don’t get the fact that justice is the only answer to tourism. It doesn’t matter if Aruba spruces up, etc– Americans still won’t visit until there is justice.

Why do you think authorities are so reluctant to solve the case?
Do they really not understand how important it is to do so?
(They seem more focused on marketing plans that won’t work.)

I am sorry that the boycott affects your family.

      I appreciate your comments.

maybe good hearted arubans will cooperate more with the dutch police who they can trust not to rat them out later. maybe people who are in the know will finally be able to get someone to answer to “special telephone number” that we’ve heard so many complaints about being unmanned and unanswered all the time. maybe now natalee and “good aruba” can win.

    20. Maggie on September 26th, 2006 3:46 pm

Look at the money that was spent by the AHATA when they were sent out to lie about Natalee and her family and lie about the case. Steve Cohen isn’t going to work for a $4.50 an hour. Why wasn’t that money spent on things like fire exits? Most of the people in prison probably are just the poor minorities taking the rap for the upper class, like the guards. Dompig came out and said his brother in law sold Natalee drugs, and yet he’s still out walking? Satish has Joran driving underage drunk, gambling underage, in a casino underage night after night with his father’s permission, in a club drinking underage, and he’s still out walking. If they can’t afford a fire exit, how is Dompig driving a Mercedes?

    21. Libby on September 26th, 2006 3:54 pm

It would be nice if the good hearted Arubans could come forward without being harmed. I think the good people are scared though. And, I can’t blame them. The guy that they found in the cooler and the guy they found in the cave…I can’t help but think they knew something and / or had talked to someone they “thought” they could trust. There is really no one in authority…including the Dutch that you can trust though. I mean think about it. They certainly can’t talk to an Aruban offical. And, all evidence that was sent to the Dutch disappered…or became cleaning fluid.

I really don’t know what the answer is.

They need someone in the US they can call that can actually follow up and be allowed to investigate…but we know that will never be allowed to happen. They don’t want our involvement.

    22. Sheri in Michigan on September 26th, 2006 3:59 pm

It seems as though the Van der sloots are more important than the whole island and its people. But why??? Why would they STILL COVER UP the whereabouts of Natalee Holloway just for Paulus and his pimp boy and the Kalpoe pimp brothers? Do they STILL think this will go away and tourism will return? YOU ARE WRONG ARUBANS! Tourism will continue to decline and the people there should push these accused persons into a confession or one of the other “nasty boys of the Aruban Island” to telling what they know. There is a lot of reward money involved don’t forget! Let’s get to the bottom of this case and you can then have your island back!
Peace be with Natalee and her families.

    23. Libby on September 26th, 2006 4:37 pm

No, Sheri in Michigan, it isn’t just about the Sloots. If it were just about the sloots, it would have been solved by now. I really don’t think they would have allowed Aruba to sink just because of rat and son. Don’t get me wrong. I think Joran did something awful to her. I think he raped her and killed her. I think the K brothers helped dispose of her the first time. They may have been involved in the rape but I am not 100% convinced of that. I think Paulus paid people off to get rid of her forever. No body no crime.

Aruba is being allowed to sink because of the cover up and those who were involved in the cover up and what they did with Natalee’s remains. The idiots down there thought it would just go away and Natalee would just be some drunken pill popping slut that disappeared down there. Wrong! Natalee was a good beautiful person and had everything going for her. The Americans will never give up on this case. So, I guess their island will just have to sink unless some good Aruban person gets tired of it all and goes to the press or to a US offical.

    25. Kate on September 26th, 2006 4:52 pm

It’s still so hard for me to comprehend (in my little pea brain) how so many people could possibly be involved in such a HUGE coverup, and not a drip of a leak seems to have happened. How can so MANY people keep the island’s most notorious secret, and for so long?

Is there anyone in Aruba who feels compelled to come forth with the truth? The U.S. government places families in permanent protection plans for providing testimony leading to convictions related to drug cartels and capital crimes. Work with us here, Arubans, or anyone else who has information! Grab the reward $$$ and federal protection, if necessary!!!

    26. JusticeforNatalee on September 26th, 2006 5:05 pm

Kate, you don’t have the pea brain. The Aruban authorities do!

They are going to sink their own island when all that saving it would take is justice for Natalee.

    28. Arubaanse on September 26th, 2006 5:11 pm

      Hi everybody!!:)

Hey klaassend, how are you doing???

Well, like I said before, everybody in Aruba knows that it’s because of this case and trust me even Nel Oduber knows this.

About KIA….heheh what can I say. There is alot of things that is not right about that place. Trust me!
See, there is alot of things that I don’t want to talk about and this one was one of them but acchhh…what the heck. I have told you guys so many personal things so, why not this one.
My biological father is a drugaddict, what we call here a “choller” and he’s been in KIA so many times for stealing and other things. I was in Aruba like 2 o 3 weeks ago and I went to visit him, cuz at that time he was still in Kia(again). So I went there and I made an appointment so that I can go visit him and I told them that I came from the Netherlands and that i am not in Aruba for long. Well, no problem until I told them my last name( I have a dutch last name). Anyway, so the woman made a quick phonecall and she started to whisper something in the other guy’s ear and he told me to show him my ticket, so i showed him the ticket and he looked at me as if he saw a ghost. They went into another room, the conversation lasted like 20 to 25 minutes, I think.
So the guy came out of the room and told me to come back around 2 O’clock. OK, no problem. I went back home to my parents. I think like 2 hours after I came home, the phone rang. My younger sister answered the phone and then I heard my sister say ” your father is on the phone”. I was like what(????)I can not believe this! I must be late for my appointment. So, i told him that i am on my way to the car and won’t take that much time before i get there.
He said to me oh don’t worry don’t rush….I am in Oranjestad right now and I am buying something for you….I was like…What the HELL????!!! What do you mean you’re in Oranjestad. He said they let me go. I asked him why. He said that they told him that someone from Holland came for him and that he is free to go. HUH?? He is free to go just because someone from Holland came to visit him??? I didn’t get it. What does this mean?? He said to me that they are afraid, that’s why. AFRAID??? of what?? He said there so many things that is wrong with that place. Like what?? I was angry…why did they let him free. I mean I know he is my biological father but he is no good for society. I was supposed to stay 3 years in prison!! Why did they let him go just because I wanted to talk to him???

I am gosh. I talk to much. Sorry folks for this long post! Forgive me. Btw I am happy to see that Linda is posting again. Hey Linda mi dushi, conta?:)

LIBBY: I know it isn’t JUST about the VDS’s, but like you said Paulus paid people to cover it all up. A lot of officials including Dom PIG is in on the cover up, probably as well as Karen and even the reporters there. The people of Aruba will not tell, because they will be punished. Possibly no one knows except the ones that are actually involved with the rape, murders, disappearance of Natalee. Maybe no one will speak because they will be in jail without the reward $$$, but let’s hope someone speaks out and I’m sure they will eventually.
      PEACE BE WITH NATALEE!

      Arubaanse,

Always good to hear from you.

If it’s obvious to everyone, including Nelson Oduber, that tourism is tanking due to the Natalee Holloway case, then why don’t they SOLVE the case?!

Why are authorities dragging their heels? This is what many Americans don’t understand.

    33. IndyDan on September 26th, 2006 6:45 pm

So KIA is a prison? I’m blown away. I didn’t know they actually had a real prison. I thought the only lockup on the Island of Paradise was the Spa Sporter and his band of Pussy Pants Pimps spent a few days in with access to teddy bears, blankies and picnic baskets from their mommys.

Why would they need a ‘real’ prison anyway. According to the Aruban PR machine, there is no crime against tourists and drug dealing must be legal because it’s done out in the open under the eye of the ALE. Whose in there anyway?

So it makes sense why they’d pick the prison to make cutbacks, afterall, there certainly aren’t any Dutch calling that home and everyone else is expendable.

    34. Arubaanse on September 26th, 2006 6:46 pm

That is something non of us understands.
This keeps getting stranger and stranger.

    35. IndyDan on September 26th, 2006 6:52 pm

Dompig’s Mercedes money didn’t come from kickbacks to coverup the kidnapping, rape and murder of Natalee Holloway by the VanDerSloots and company. He’s not in that loop.

Dumpig’s money comes from kickbacks by the local drug dealers to turn a blind eye their operation. Dumpig is not connected in the master coverup. He’s well aware there is a coverup and like the lackey he is, he’s keeping his nose well tucked into the Dutchies asses that run the island.

    42. Richard on September 26th, 2006 8:45 pm

Linda, all that I can say is … try to tell the other good people of Aruba that we Americans are not going to give up on the quest for truth and justice. The sooner they realize that, the sooner answers might be forthcoming.

It would be wonderful if you could tell us about the general mood on Aruba … what people are thinking.

And there have been lots of comments here, wondering why Aruba seems still to be hostile or reluctant to solve the case.

So let me trot out something once again … as people have noted, if the whole thing were only to protect the van der Sloots, and even other Pimps, then the moment it was decided that they were dispensable, the cover-up could and probably would end.

Now, suppose that the Aruban government has reason to suspect that the Pimps, after they were “done” with Natalee, handed her over to someone who took her off the island. Perhaps it was a drug dealer; perhaps it was someone who made porn movies; perhaps it was just some criminal. Solves their problem, in any case.

And now suppose the Aruban government wanted to come out and say that Natalee was sold and taken off the island. They’re not sure where she is now, they don’t know if she’s dead or alive, they have no idea how to start looking for her.

Oh, yes … they want American tourists!

Were they to make such an announcement, how much would their tourism plunge by? And what policy might the U.S. government, so incredibly indifferent up to date, then adopt?

You got it … the second path would be absolute RUIN.

But of course it couldn’t happen; Americans don’t get kidnapped. Happens to other people, but not to us.

    43. 10061906 on September 26th, 2006 9:06 pm

“Joran what are you doing here?” ” I didn’t think you would show up its so late.” “I couldn’t let you go home without apologizing for what happened before.” “I was such an asshole.” ” So I couldn’t let you go back home thinking about how badly I treated you on Aruba.” “After all it was your celebration, your graduation.” “I didn’t want you to remember any bad memories from your vacation here.” “Its really loud over here”. “Let’s go over to the other bar where it is not so noisy.” “So what are you going to do when you get home?” “I’m going to start college in the fall.” I’m going to premed.” “And you?” “I’m not to sure.” “I’ll probably start school in August.” “Let me get your address and I’ll write to you.” “I wish you a lot of luck in school.” “It’s almost closing time, let me buy you a drink.” “Thank you what is it.” “It’s 151, you have to drink it slowly.” “Joran its almost closing time and I really do not feel to good.” “My legs are a little wobbly.” “I’ll tell you what, I’m going to go back to our hotel, let me have my friends get us a cab.” “Thanks.” “Boy the way they listen to you, what are they your slaves?” “Well here we are, get in.” “The driver will get us back to the hotel in a few minutes.”…………….
Well; Joran, is this the way it went down? Is that how you got Natalee into Deepak’s cab? Deepak did you stop to tell everyone you hit the jackpot?
We know where you took her and what you did to her. Our problem is we don’t know what your father did with Natalee afterwards. So where is she? It would be a good of you to tell us before someone snuffs out your miserable excuse for an oxygen to carbon dioxide converter. (Someone else’s words but perfect.)
Was this your revenge for the three fights you almost got into with the MBHS grads over Natalee? Was this Geoffrey’s revenge for Natalee refusing his advances at C and C’s. What was it for you Michael and Andreas, were you two along for the ride? And you Koen; were you the virgin in the group and was Natalee going to be your first? We didn’t forget our gay buddy Guido. Did they try to make you straight that night? I almost forgot.
Deepak and Satish; an unconscious defenseless girl is the only way you will ever get sex. Satish you know what it means to see the ghost of someone you helped kill. It means the spirit will not rest until you too are a spirit and will never let you alone until that happens.

Jerk the father and son predatory raping murdering Van der sloots up by their necks… and stick the POS in a place
that is worthy of their presence. That would be either
a graveyard or the KIA, Aruba.

The Monkeys will always be the collective heartbeat that keeps Natalee alive while seeking and finding truth and spreading the word about the laundry list of injustices which continue to envelop Aruba like a low hanging stench. For all the evil that has and continues to be perpetrated in Aruba — not only on its victims, but on its own people…for all the times I have cried thinking of what really happened, for all the days my heart has ached for Natalee and her family, at first it is easy to become disgusted with human nature and then I experience the caring and dedication of this group of posters and it renews my faith completely. I know there will always be evil out there, but it warms the heart to read the comments from those who never stop the process of finding JFN–each monkey contributing in his or her own very unique and special way…. Beth needs you, this crazy world we are living in needs you all. God Bless

ps BTW Carpe — You Go Guy, the hours you have spent exposing the truth. I once posted that Arubay 510-24 instantly gave me the serious willies, now, with your work, I damn well know why, though I didn’t then except for some primal instinct sounding its alarm in my brain as I watched that segment….I pray the Dutchies will take all the monkeys hard work under serious consideration. Why the perps are still wandering around free is beyond imagination. It is all fitting together…..what more proof could they possibly need? Keep the Faith!

The good people of Aruba don’t realize that even the most powerful lion cannot stand against 100,000 angry Arawak. The very fact that Oduber, Croes, and all the MEP haven’t been forcibly dragged out of Parliament by the Arubans can be summed up in one sentence:

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to stand by and do nothing.

    56. KELMAL on September 28th, 2006 6:53 pm

Dan I agree 100%. Just like when the good people did NOTHING in LA when OJ got off !!!!!!
