Patrick Kennedy, 30 days later after being in Rehab and ready to Serve the People of RI

What I learned on my rehab vacation.

Patrick Kennedy Drive

(Vanderbilt – ‘06)

One day out of rehab and Patrick Kennedy sounding like he may want to re-enlist for another 30 days. Denial is a terrible thing when dealing with an alcohol or drug problem. It is only compounded when one is also a politician and a Kennedy. One day out of rehab and Patrick Kennedy waffles on the alcohol issue. Suddenly Patrick’s traffic accident and subsequent rehab is a right wing conspiracy.

Fresh out of rehab, Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy acknowledged that at least two people have told cops he was drinking at a Washington, D.C., bar the night he wrecked his car, including a waitress who works for a Republican rival.

Kennedy yesterday said that an aide to U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) who moonlights as a waitress at the Hawk ’N Dove bar told police Kennedy was in the watering hole before he crashed his Mustang into a security barrier near the U.S. Capitol in May

Then come this astonishing comment from Patrick Kennedy, “Treat me like I’m black”. Could you possible pander or play the victim a bit more?

Fresh from rehab, Rep. Patrick Kennedy said yesterday he wants to be treated like an African-American from Washington if and when he gets charged for crashing his car on Capitol Hill.

He still insists that he was given no preferential treatment. With a last name of Kennedy and he can make this comment with a straight face. This poor guy is in denial as to the preferential treatment he gets every day and RI voters are somehow actually going to vote for this man?

Most of us like to live on that little place we like to call Earth. Patrick, the mere fact that you were a politician and a Kennedy gave you preferential treatment. Your voters back in Rhode Island would not have been provided the luxuries you were afforded.

We all hope the best for Patrick Kennedy in his personal life dealing with his addition issues; however, there is just one thing we do not understand either from Kennedy or the voters of Rhode Island. How do you renominated a candidate with an admitted drug problem that is “chronic”? How responsible is it to have this man be a duly elected politician if this is his unfortunate condition?

Kennedy (D-Rhode Island), who has acknowledged that he suffered from depression and had abused alcohol and prescription drugs for years, vowed on Monday to shun all “mood-altering drugs” and insisted he did not receive preferential treatment from police, Reuters reports.

Kennedy called his struggle with addiction a “chronic condition” and said he is “taking full responsibility” for his actions.

(People Magazine)

Kennedy stated “he was not drinking on the night of the accident, but had taken Ambien, an insomnia drug, and Phenergan, an anti-nausea medication for gastroenteritis”. So his addition to prescription drugs is for what? Is not the medication for his insomnia?
