Government of the Netherlands Antilles Angered Over Non-White Actor Portraying Joran Van der Sloot

The investigation into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway has been botched from the very beginning. Some say it was incompetence on the part of the Aruban authorities while others state it was an intentional cover up. Ten months later ‘Opsporing Verzocht,’ a Dutch version similar to America’s Most Wanted aired their version of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. With an issue so important to Aruba and the loss of tourism that it has ensued; we now have a new controversy brewing from last nights TV show.

The presentation of ‘Opsporing Verzocht’ was pretty much a fair depiction of accounts, but with one glaring problem. Since when was Joran Van der Sloot of color? This fact also seems not to be lost of the government of the Netherlands Antilles.

The government of the Netherlands Antilles has reacted angrily to the broadcast of a television appeal for information about the disappearance of American Natalee Holloway.

A non-white actor played the role of white Dutch teenager Joran van der Sloot, 18, in the re-enactment of the final hours prior to 18-year-old Holloway vanishing on the Dutch autonomous island of Aruba in the Caribbean.

Why would a Dutch TV program intentionally cast an actor who is non-white as Joran Van der Sloot? Especially since they went out of their way to make the actress who portrayed Natalee Holloway to look similar. Heck, they even impounded Deepak’s car for authenticity in the TV program. At this rate, Natalee Holloway should have been played by a 6 ft brunette. And Deepak’s car should have looked like this.

Rolls Royce

It is a glaring omission that ‘Opsporing Verzocht’ would depict Joran, a blue eyed, extremely fair skinned Dutch lad as non-white. The whole point of the show was a “reenactment” and they cast Joran as non-white? Why would they distort they facts?

The Antillean government in Willemstad, Curacao accused prosecutors who cooperated with the program of distorting the facts by not using a white actor, RTL Nieuws reported.

It is puzzling a Dutch TV program would not portray a white actor as one of the prime suspects in the disappearance of Natalee. Joran Van der Sloot is white. All the other characters in this program were pretty much similar in appearance. They even had the actress playing Natalee dress is a similar manner.

Why was the one lone Dutch suspect not similar as the rest of the presentation? What message is this supposed to send to the others in Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles? In many respects this is just as disturbing as the Aruban authorities initially arresting the two black security guards and performing searches of their homes in a much different manner than Joran Van der Sloot.

I guess Devito is starring in another animation flick called Deck The Halls. It should be out for Xmas in late November.
