A Black & White View of Aruba and the Natalee Holloway Investigation

Chuck Geiss takes a “Black & White” approach to the Natalee Holloway investigation and the Aruban response. It is his opinion that the Aruban government never wants the crime solved; however, they do want your tourism dollars.

Taking the long view of the Natalee Holloway investigation, it is easy to come to the conclusion that the Aruban government has no interest in resolving this case. However, they do want you to visit the island; tourism officials have unleashed an aggressive new media campaign in the United States and they would prefer that you forget all about Natalee Holloway.

There is certainly no appeal for Aruba’s Police Commissioner, Jan Van der Straaten, in a black and white world.

Aruba’s Police Commissioner, Jan Van der Straaten, ignored repeated pleas to get involved in the case and even told one family friend to go to Carlos & Charlie’s on Wednesday night, “because it is Ladies’ Night and she will certainly be there.”

The police actions seem to get the same grades with their lack of information and idle promises have caused failed expectations.

What little information the police provided to the family and the press was often masked in meaningless phrases, repeated over and over again, such as, “we will have important details in 48 hours,” and “the investigation is reaching a very critical point.”

False information was continuously leaked to the press. DNA evidence that was collected and later rejected by authorities over “procedural problems” was never re-collected. It took 10 days for authorities to arrive at Joran’s home—where he had told police he had taken Natalee—to gather forensic evidence.

There are doubts whether any of the items confiscated there were actually tested.

Then one wonders when looking at things in a black and white manner how the courts could be so closed and shut off?

By Dutch law, all hearings are closed to the public. “On September 1 [at the hearing when Joran was set free], the suspects, the defense, and the prosecutors all appeared before a judge. [Natalee's family] was not allowed to be in the courtroom. “We can’t hear the testimony, we can’t see the body language, we don’t have the opportunity to understand what is happening and why,” said a frustrated Twitty.

A black and white view examines everything from boycott to Aruba’s attempt to bolster tourism with their new ad campaigns. Even though there are some in Aruba that are very uncomfortable with Beth Twitty’s comments, they push forth with tourism.

Twitty has since called for an American boycott of Aruba, as have many high-profile personalities on whose shows she has appeared, including Oprah Wynfrey and Dr. Phil. This doesn’t sit well with some Aruban authorities, such as Justice Minister Rudy Croes who has explored the option of “shutting [Twitty] up,” whatever that means.

Read the full article and and the Aruban efforts to promote tourism and the USA Today story. From a black and while perspective Geiss just says, “Proceed at your own risk”.

One question. Why wouldn’t Aruba want this case solved?

    2. Mastermind on October 8th, 2005 10:30 am

of course would Aruba have this case solved. The fact is however that not all crimes are solved (even on Aruba)

    3. bizman on October 8th, 2005 10:45 am

Chuck Geiss is not taking a black and white approach. He is taking a one-sided approach that simply proves that he thinks Beth is entitled to things that are not even afforded to the citizens of Aruba.

      Chuck:
Taking the long view of the Natalee Holloway investigation, it is easy to come to the conclusion that the Aruban government has no interest in resolving this case. However, they do want you to visit the island; tourism officials have unleashed an aggressive new media campaign in the United States and they would prefer that you forget all about Natalee Holloway.

      Bizman:
There is no reason to take a long view of the investigation. It is clear that there is no evidence so far in the case. What Chuck is really saying is since the Aruban investigators have not followed Beth’s accusations and tried and convicted Joran and the Kalpoe’s and locked them away forever that it is easy to see they do not want to solve the case.It is obvious that Chuck believes everything that comes out of Beth’s mouth.Just because the script that Beth seems to have laid out for the case has not come to fruition is not indicative that the Arubans do not want the case solved.

      Chuck:
Aruba’s Police Commissioner, Jan Van der Straaten, ignored repeated pleas to get involved in the case and even told one family friend to go to Carlos & Charlie’s on Wednesday night, “because it is Ladies’ Night and she will certainly be there.”

      Bizman:
Sounds like good advice to the family.Since that is the last place she was seen partying it is not such a bad idea for some of the family to have at least checked it out.It has been reported that Natalee like Carlos N Charlies.I dont know why as it is a dive as far as I am concerned.Did the family take the advice or deem it irrelevant as they have so much of the time before the trip and during the trip leading up to Natalee missing.

      Chuck:
What little information the police provided to the family and the press was often masked in meaningless phrases, repeated over and over again, such as, “we will have important details in 48 hours,” and “the investigation is reaching a very critical point.”

False information was continuously leaked to the press. DNA evidence that was collected and later rejected by authorities over “procedural problems” was never re-collected. It took 10 days for authorities to arrive at Joran’s home—where he had told police he had taken Natalee—to gather forensic evidence.

There are doubts whether any of the items confiscated there were actually tested.

      Bizman:
Believe it or not it is difficult for any police force to give information when they do not have any to give.Would the family have appreciated fabricated information just for the sake of being told something? It is a very critical point in an investigation when the investigation reaches a point where the leads are failing to produce evidence.

Talk about false information being leaked to the press.Wow,we have been hearing false unsubstantiated information for months in the press on any TV show that would stoop so low as to broadcast the false information.

Just a few examples of false unsubstantiated information submitted to the public in an obvious attempt to garner evidence to keep Joran in jail.

1.The claims that Joran took Natalee to her house,no such evidence has been presented to back up this claim and if Natalee were taken to the house DNA of Natalee would have been found even 30 days after the fact let alone 10 days. The reason no DNA was found is because she was never there.Beth has no documents that prove anything if she did it would be highlighted on all of the TV shows. She cant produce what she does not have in her possession.

2.Speaking of DNA,the toothbrush obviously belonged to Natalee and if it did not belong to Natalee then it never should have been given to ALE in the first place. But since male DNA came back on it and it was not the DNA of Joran and the Kalpoe’s Beth conveniently dismisses the toothbrush as not even belonging to Natalee. And then she goes as far as to say that the toothbrush belongs to one of the other girls who was sharing the room with Natalee, yeah one the girls who was already back in Alabama obviously insinuating that the girl engaged in promiscious behavior.

3.The taxi cab story and so many other false statements made.I will not add anymore since most folks already know.

      Chuck:
By Dutch law, all hearings are closed to the public. “On September 1 [at the hearing when Joran was set free], the suspects, the defense, and the prosecutors all appeared before a judge. [Natalee's family] was not allowed to be in the courtroom. “We can’t hear the testimony, we can’t see the body language, we don’t have the opportunity to understand what is happening and why,” said a frustrated Twitty.

      Bizman:
That is the Dutch law.It has to be respected by all. When there is no evidence the suspects are always released.Even right there in Mountain Brook,Alabama. At least that is the way it works here in Memphis,tn.

      Chuck:
Twitty has since called for an American boycott of Aruba, as have many high-profile personalities on whose shows she has appeared, including Oprah Wynfrey and Dr. Phil. This doesn’t sit well with some Aruban authorities, such as Justice Minister Rudy Croes who has explored the option of “shutting [Twitty] up,” whatever that means.

      Bizman:
Wrong Chuck,(well actually you are 100% correct)Beth has only asked those who have supported her to not travel to Aruba or any Dutch territory until Natalee is returned to her.I agree Chuck it is a call for a boycott and should be acknowledged by Beth for what it is.We all know the talk show host will do anything for ratings. As for what Rudy Croes means it is obvious that the Arubans want Beth to stop the media campaign against Aruba. It is almost a certainty that the Arubans would welcome any proof or evidence to back up Beth’s claims. They cant produce what thet dont have.I do not think they have Natalee in a freezer somewhere where they can just give her back to Beth when they decide to.

As far as Aruba promoting tourism to their island. What is wrong with that. They have promoted tourism for decades so why should they stop now.Anyone heard of Washington D.C. stopping ads for tourism because Chandra Levy murder has not been solved. No they are still advertising for tourism.Just because Natalee’s disappearance has not been solved is no reason for Aruba to not promote their island and it is certainly no reason for anyone to boycott the island.Just as no one should boycott any of thousands of cities around the world where crimes remain unsolved.

I sincerely hope that Natalee is found and found alive but the foolishness of what is aired on the TV shows need to stop unless their is proof to back up the claims.

    4. MuggsyMandrill on October 8th, 2005 10:52 am

This is not about what aruba wants any longer, I personally could care less what aruba wants. We don’t always get what we want, just ask Beth and the rest of Natalee’s family.

    5. Frank on October 8th, 2005 11:17 am

You could count on one hand the number of crimes in the U.S. that have not been solved with a lot less evidence than this one has. Corruption had taken over this case from the day that the crime was committed. This is very sad for the Aruban people. Aruba was a great place to visit and the “native” Arubans are very friendly and kind but unfortunately they do not run their own country.

    6. 10061906 on October 8th, 2005 11:40 am

I have a scenario of events for May 30th and were Natalee is buried. No one want’s to listen. I have sent letters with no responses. In so far as a boycott of Aruba: don’t stop there. Lets continue with a boycott of all the Dutch Antilles Islands and tell Holland itself where to stick it’s tulips.

    7. Cassandra Skye on October 8th, 2005 11:49 am

Aruba does not want the case solved because Murder in Aruba is definitive; whereas, Forever Missing in Aruba offers the possibilites for upteen scenarios absolving Aruba from taking any responsibility for the disappearance of an individual within a 70 square mile radius. Eddie Briesen the Minister of Tourism was discussing “damage control” on local television two days after Natalee went “missing”.

If you really want your letters to be answered mention your name so that we may see if you actually send letters or not, or you are just blabbing your mouth.

Mention your name, maybe I can help you or do something about your so called letters.

    12. 10061906 on October 8th, 2005 2:59 pm

To Gabriel Leo: There is a more polite way to make a statement which obviously you do not pocess. See now I’m getting into the same bad habit.
But here is a clue MONTANA GOLD. Sorry I missed spelled “where”in my first comment.

    13. Leo on October 8th, 2005 4:21 pm

      Well, you asked.

Why wouldn’t Aruba want this case solved?

Because, as long as there is no body they can continue to deny any crime happened. “No body, no crime.” Arubans think Americans will be more likely to stay away if there is indisputable proof (i.e. a body) an American was murdered than if one is simply missing. It is all about the tourism. They didn’t expect the media firestorm that would cast a spotlight on their methods.

As long as Natalee is classified as “missing” Aruba can maintain the fiction she simply “ran off.” Or, maybe accidentally drown.

In short they think Americans are stupid. And, they could be right – a number of my acquaintances believe she ran off or drowned.

    14. John Staton on October 8th, 2005 4:31 pm

By Aruba not wanting the case solved, what is ment is that the elite do not want it solved because the gang rape and murder was lead by one of their own. If you solve this case then Joran and his friends in the P.I.M.P.S will be in jail not only for this rape but for all of the others which they have committed but not charged. Remember this has been going on for some time and this group has enjoyed complete protection for their activities by the authorities in Aruba. Aruba, as I have pointed out several times, is the leading trans shipment point for drugs going into the Eastern 1/2 of North America and is a leading trans shipment point for drugs from South America to Europe. It sells itself as a totally anti moral society. It is owned by the drug cartels both from South America and Holland.

    15. Cheyenne on October 8th, 2005 8:24 pm

Now that doesn’t make a bit of sense. They dont want to solve this crime but they want American tourist trade? Hello? Doesn’t take a scholar to realize that finding Natalee and solving this case would be the very thing that is needed more than anything for Arubans.

IMO Aruba desperately wants to solve this case so that Natalee can be found… her abductor punished criminally and the Twittys will go home never to return. That is what Aruba wants more than anything.

    16. 10061906 on October 8th, 2005 8:44 pm

To: Gabriel Leo if in fact that is YOUR name. Try to be a little more respectful to others’opinions. If you could supply me with Natalee’s mother’s and father’s address I would be happy to share the results of my hard research. Here are some helpful hints. Take the statements of the five suspects. Whether they are or are not lies. Piece together a storyboard from these remarks, form a timeline, try and develope who, what, where, when and why and possible how. Make a few assumptions and you will understand these guys are going to hang themselves once Natalee’s body is found. Sorry to say body and they have to hurry to find the remains before they completly decompose. Look outside of the circle that the Aruban government has everyone running and analyse your findings. My last helpful hints will be take two states in the USA and find out what they have in common. Find a drug that is used in the Caribbean and South America but banned in the USA. Lastly go on the internet and research all of Scared Monkeys comments since the beginning and over 800 photos and maps. Good Luck. That is what I have been doing while everyone else is arguing. Enough said….

The reason Aruba doesn’t want the case solved is because it would let everyone know what goes on there…the illegal stuff.
      Can everyone say Shango?
What I can’t believe is how horrible, thoughtless and without any value for human life this place is…with every statement it just shakes you to the core….they’re getting worse.

    18. Richard on October 9th, 2005 9:38 am

And let’s not forget the cases of Claudia Kirschhoch on Jamaica and Amy Bradley on Curacao … both are also unsolved.

Why cant bush detour some troops over there to protect her.

    21. 10061906 on October 10th, 2005 11:10 am

To: Aruba’s The Pits… The Dutch Government is protecting Paulus because he was in Joran’s apartment/house with Natalee the night she disappeared. I believe Paulus is the only one that has not given an alibi for that night. “Me thinks the lady doth protest too much”. In this cause Paulus doth protest too much…. “no body no case”. His arrest was a devious and easy way to get legal advice to his son. Yes a boycott would hurt the Auban people. Maybe this is what they need to create their own government and pull out from under corrupt Dutch rule. Down with TULIPS!!!

If you have some information of real value in this case you should come forward with it right away! There are all sorts of ways to get your voice heard. What about the email address publicized by Dave Holloway? It would appear from your ramblings and dropping of hints here that you are simply looking for attention.

Are you seriously saying that the President of the United States should put our military troops in Aruba to protect Beth Twitty??!! Your kidding, right? Tell me that I just fell for your joke. We do not use the military as a private security firm to make a tourist feel better. Get real.

Hopefully people can relize that at 18 kids seem to be ready to experiment with what life has to offer. I have a daugher who graduated this past spring from High School. She is a attractive ,smart, outgoing girl. However this past few months having fun, drinking, and just enjoying this mlestone seems to hav taken over. I feel this is a part of life and, the responsibility that has to be learned so, when natilee went to aruba she made bad chioices and they lead to her disaperance. She went with these boy all drunk and all out for hot sex and, fun. Where were her friends to stop her where were the chaperones. As a parent we have a responsibility to make sure our kids are watched and taught to not go with anyone alone and to be careful drinking makes all of us make bad decisions. So what about natilee,s behavior. Don’t pen this all on these boys. Why would they rape and murder her? And boy they can hide a body if they did. I feel for Beth Holloway however she plays a part of the blame she sent her daughter to a island where drinking and play are free. And did’nt talk to her daughter enough about sticking together and making sure chaperones were keeping eyes on these kids. In conclusion maybe her daughter is in part to blame.
