AP now reporting: 3 Charged With Murder of Teen in Aruba
ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — Three young men detained in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager have been charged with murder since their arrest more than three weeks ago, Aruba’s chief prosecutor told The Associated Press on Friday.
The charges were not announced at the time to protect the family of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway, said Attorney General Karin Janssen.
“The three have been charged with the murder of Natalee Holloway from the beginning” of their arrest 10 days after the young woman went missing May 30, she said.

You ‘all know that the hearings are on Monday, right?
Seems that the defense attorneys are trying to get the boys to give statements and being asked questions during the hearing as well, as opposed to the judge only ruling whether the detention is legal or not.

Since the story was first posted, commenter’s have been questioning the validity of the statements that the 3 suspects were charged with murder. Now comes the following…
Fox now on TV. Nothing has changed per prosecution, police commissioner and one lawyer. No change. no change. no change. they are held on suspicion of murder, manslaughter and kidnapping with death as a result. No change. this is why they have been held since day one. Formal charged come at the end of the instructive phase now on going. You will know it when it happens because they will all show up in court.

CNN claims that they have spoken to three individuals who all have unequivocally stated that:
There has been absolutely NO change in status of the three boys arrested

Because it is not news. The charge was murder for all the arrestees from the beginning, only they arrest people in Aruba for suspicion, they are just restating it in a way to be more accessible and resonant for an American audience. (Ting)
The three are being held on:
suspicion of complicity in murder (premeditated is implicit), manslaughter, kidnapping with death as a result.
They can’t be charged until the instructive phase of the investigation is complete. this requires a hearing and a public announcement. you can’t charge people and keep it secret. they have yet to be charged and there is no evidence of murder according to public statements of the prosecutor. None of this makes sense.
I’m quite pissed.
the whole … 3 charged with murder doesn’t make sense. I think the prosecutor is on a time deadline and is just making judgments before court on Mon/Tuesday. (Kristy)
