VAN SUSTEREN: Where were you?MCVAY: We were in our hotel casino. And that was the first night that she had ever met him. Contrary to other stories that are circulating, she did not know him before that night.

VAN SUSTEREN: And Ruth, how did you happen to notice him? What was it about him that caught your attention?MCVAY: He didn’t. He was sitting at our blackjack table, and he just seemed like a normal teenager. He wasn’t flirting. He wasn’t really outgoing at all. And Natalee, just in passing, introduced herself and walked off. And nothing was strange or out of the ordinary about him at all.

VAN SUSTEREN: How is it, Ruth, that both Joran and Natalee both ended up at Carlos and Charlie’s?MCVAY: He came with his friends. He had told us that night that Sunday was not a fun night on the island and that no one goes out. So we found it ironic that he showed up.

VAN SUSTEREN: Ruth, did you actually see Natalee leave with Joran from Carlos and Charlie’s?MCVAY: No, I actually left an hour before the club closed.
VAN SUSTEREN: Either one of you, do you know if any of your friends saw her leave with him?
BYRD: No. If one of our good friends had seen her, we would never have let her get in the car with him, ever. Absolutely not.
VAN SUSTEREN: Frances, when you left Carlos and Charlie’s, was it just Natalee that was left behind in your group of friends, or was there a bunch of you?
BYRD: No, I don’t know how many people exactly, but there was a lot of people there at closing time, including the local people and all the other people that were in Carlos and Charlie’s that night. And when we all left, there was just a huge group of people waiting outside for taxis, and I never saw her get into that taxi.

Simian said the 5th suspect was someone else who Natalee was seeing earlier in the trip.

I must say, they play the part very well. How come I just don’t believe them. Proly because I know what I know. Hi everybody, was watching Nancy Grace. Mr. Holloway was on. He said Steve Croes was detained because initially he was brought in for questioning and he declared that he saw Joran, Deepak and Satish leaving Natalee at the Holiday Inn. He stated that as that story crumbled, then he obviously lied to cover-up something, thus becoming a suspect.
Mr. Holloway also said, at Nancy’s request, that he thinks when Mrs. Twitty says that other individuals should be questioned, she refers to Mr. Van Der Sloot.

You know, did anyone else realize how Natalee’s mother was also like, “Oh there will be more arrests Greta, I am sure of that. There is more information that will be coming out soon.” She SO knows something….why can’t we know? There is no way she would be as calm and cool as she is. I see her losing her ‘Mrs. Nice’ attitude, but I don’t ever see her losing her cool. And did you see when she collapsed against her husband in the beginning of all this? She did not run. However, her parents did play with that scenario as you could see on the poster Dutch provided for you. I have seen these posters around the island also and found them very strange. Just like the initial reward amount.

This is a very sad story! All seniors from high school just want to have fun! Natalee is beautiful and very smart! Something happenned bad! Yes, we all know, something BAD happenned. I believe she trusted or was given something in her last drink. She thought these guys would take her to her hotel. They thought they would have some fun. I do think it was accidental. Whatever, they need to confess. The family needs closure!!!

Nancy Grace is on now on CNN. She used to be in Court TV and for a while, during the Elizabeth Smart, Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson cases she got a lot of TV time on Larry King as a guest.

Now why would NH out up a poster for her Mom? Note the wording, like Mom knows NH does not want to talk to her… Reward was written in the beginning, later versions of the poster would have an amount printed on them.

i am saying-did the people who have natalee make that poster up? as it says i love you and miss you and i want to talk with you. why would it say that? and then say call me on my cell phone…it just seems strange to me. i didnt think natalee put that on there herself. and it also said my mom is on aruba….i dont know. maybe they want something from the parents, and this was all a plan to get her parents to come to aruba so they could get money…aren’t both parents very wealthy???

Don’t be sorry. I thought it was funny. We haven’t had cable tv for long. I am interested because I am very empathetic, am a mom of 3 daughters, and can just feel the pain of the mom. They could be any family, Natalee could be anyone’s daughter.
so what is the latest rumor? that nat is in a different country? what did joran get into an argument with the alabama kids about? do we know anything about that? it’s funny how natalee’s mother says that it’s irrelevant to her whether or not she has spoken with any of the kids about that night…but country moom says that they have told natalee’s mother the truth about everything. these lies/cover-ups aren’t going to make it much longer. greta already messed up the whole going to the sloot’s house lie…because she said in her article that natalee’s mother said at 9am-lets go to their house, and then natalee’s mother said that they “ended up” in their neighborhood.
checkme, when we went to aruba in 2001, we met up with Mr. Aruba and his friends. They hung out at our hotel all week…and we became friends with them. Do you know of him or have you ever seen him? He would have been the Mr. Aruba of 2001. Just curious.

Mangoes in full season here too. All types. Has anybody ever seen a movie called “10 Angry Men” with Henry Fonda? Is quite an old movie. For those who have not seen it, its about a jury that is totally convinced of a defendant’s guilt. There is a member of the jury that believes that the facts, posssibilities must be reviewed before reaching a conclusion, and this juror guides them through all the evidence, until they render a verdict of not guilty. I get the feeling this is happening to us. As we are guided and discuss possibilities, we are changing our initial convictions on this case while we discover that there is more than meets the eye.
Oh well! My question is, are we really facing a silence before the storm???
yes lucy! i read the book and saw the movie…sometimes i think joran is innocent, but then again i obviously can’t judge hin without knowing him.

I can’t help but continue to think, extend this out, reveal no details, and these guys will walk, and the closure will be an unresolved missing person case.
Good thought Lucy. I just saw Mr. H interviewed on Hannity and Colmes. He says 8-9 more individuals? Possibly a parent involved somehow - Mr VDS? He stopped short of giving any real information. He was so cautious about what he said.

Dave Holloway still on Fox - he believes a crime was committed. He wants to be optimisitc. He doesn’t believe she ran off. She never ran off before except when she was 3 years old.
He said they could not commit a perfect crime. He’s trying to maintain hope. The FBI thinks foul play is involved. As a parent you have a glimmer of hope. The FBI thinks the Aruban officials are doing a good job.

Does anyone else think that Natalee’s friends sound “well rehearsed”? I can’t help but think they are only regurgitating a canned response. They are so unbelievable, it’s pathetic. I am pulling for Natalee’s family 100%, but I think these girls are trying to cover up the truth about that night and maintain an image. They were all out drinking and partying and have a good time, and no one was looking out for them. They want everyone to think they were angels over there, which is highly unlikely given their ages and the whole situation. Why not just tell the truth? Heck! Most of us would be partying it up over there ourselves! This whole cover up isn’t helping Natalee.

Atheist girl- I thought that they seemed well rehearsed; however, I was unable to identify/deduce whether it was a result of fear, overwhelming sadness, fabrication, or embarrassment. However, they did not seem “natural”..but i don’t know how I would react if I was ever placed in a comparable sitaution. But did you notice that the friend on the left said that Natalee appeared to look as if she was getting into a “cab”and then she recanted and said the car?..It seemed a little odd to me.

Bham, we arent trying to hurt Natalee’s reputation. No one here thinks she is a bad person. I had a similar experience when I went to Aruba myself. We went on the tattoo cruise, and were wasted, and we did the same at carlos and charlies. We just want to know why everyone is covering up whats really going on there. Why is everyone’s story different down there? Why cant you guys tell us what’s really happening? Are we ever going to find out? Even though we dont know Natalee, we all want her back safely. Like I said, a similar situation happened to me and my two friends when we went on our glass graduation trip…we got into a car with three boys when we shouldnt have. Something terrible could have happened. These boys tried to firce drugs as well as themselves on us…not a fun experience. We just want answers, as does everyone else following this horrific story.

You know Kristin, a couple of days ago I did get a veery strong feeling that we were being “watched”. It scared me a bit. I must say, you know quite a bit now about this case. You have nearly all the pieces. And you know where it rattles.
My thoughts are that this was premeditated. From listening to the new story last night and the info that I heard. JVS called his dad to be picked up at, I believe, McDonalds at 11:00. After that he left his house to go to C&C. Why did he not just go there why he was out? I feel like he needed an alibi, if it come up, his dad could say he was home. He obviously talk to the girl’s earlier and knew they were going to C&C, because he commented that Sundays nothing much happens. He had already schemed up something. Of what I have no clue. Only speculation.
I agree the kids seem very coached. “Stepford kids” I said before. But they are also probably scared, drained, and confused. Their lives will never be the same.

Amanda - Joran was not supposed to go back out. He snuck out. But I agree that I think it was premeditated. If it had been “an accident” or a spur of the moment thing, he would not be as determined to “not talk” as he is. I believe this was planned. I also believe Aruba will continue to stall the case on the pretense of having to let the boys go in 116 days. Aruba gains nothing by solving the case because whatever the truth is, it’s bad for Aruba.
They can save SOME tourism by leaving it a mystery - those of us that believe there is a premeditated murder that was covered up will never go to Aruba - those that believe Natalee was a wild child that “got what she deserved” will continue to go to Aruba. If the truth is revealed, they will lose a good portion of their economic standing. Americans typically talk with their wallets.
This is the first time I’ve been to the website… but I must say I have noticed that the mother is holding up rather well now. If this were me, I think I would become more discouraged with time not so determined. I also commented the other day to a friend that if this were happening in the states… I think more information would be leaking out. It is very being kept very quietly. I mean they are holding people and cannot even really tell why or what they know. I feel so terrible for this family and the community.

I am certain this blog is being watched. So much information surfaces here, that I am sure it has to be monitored from different sources like the families, the investigators, the FBI and possibly those responsible for whatever may have been committed or taken place.
If so many people may be involved, they must be looking for what is being said “out there”. The Scaredmonkey phenomenom has been widely publicised, plus Top95/Arubadag.com lists this site as a source of information on the case.
The feeling is not just limited to those on this thread. Over at the discussion forum, there is an aruban participant, apparently quite young that has been warned to watch what she says, because she is too open and not cautious enough with her comments.

This was a setup, but not by VDS (junior or senior). But they may have been used as a veil. In that sense they are as much a victim as NH.
This just looks more and more like a puppet show to me.

Why would somebody not do something?

†¢Insecurity: not knowing if the outcome will be favorable or not.
†¢Does not wants to leave in the open all the incriminatory facts against somebody one is trying to protect in some form.
†¢The consequences of doing something would not help achieve the strategic objective.
†¢The moment has not come.
†¢Doing something may harm alternative plans.
†¢Catch 22 situation.
Ran out of ideas here … This is a “backyard” philosophical analysis. so the corresponding details to each option are so far unknown.
Lucy, Therein lies the answer. Instead of pounding authorities, families, innocent bystanders, islanders, americans, dutch, etc, we should be aware of this strong possibility. Compassion, intelligence and assuming most people mean well, are principles we need to adhere to.
but to me it does indicate this is not a “3-boyz-booze-rape-harm-girl” scenario.

I read somewhere that Deepak is very calm (I think it was Mickey John’s opinion). The apology and stating that he had dropped Joran at the Marriott could very well be a way to point the finger once again. So, maybe she is in Panamaribo and not Venezuela or Colombia.
the authorities do need to eliminate any possible doubt about anybody’s innocence in this case.

Connections between SRN and COL exist of course. Up until the board rooms of European airline carriers (Air Holland for example). But I haven’t heard anything like this related to this case.
My speculation (mind you, this is pure on my own account) is that this has to do with blackmail of a very high political degree. Again, no proof, pure speculation, I hate to do this but others have speculated, I think I am allowed that luxury now also.

After the developments of the last two days (our discussions), I think that yes, we have all been so overfocused on the most morbid scenario, that we have forgotten that there are other parents involved that are also so in pain, yet many of us have been so cruel at making them guilty also, while they seclude at home and do not have the opportunity to defend and protect their child.
Right at this moment, I feel such regret for precipitating myself at condemning the VDS. It was very painful and sad to see Paul and Anita on TV. Today, I did feel remorse for my thoughts and posts of a few days ago.

Lucy-i concede. I just watched the VDS’s; and was saddened by watching Anita. I had always assumed that she would be callous and reticent. She is in true pain. I think that possibly, as times, we fail to see that there are many more victims of this crime than just Natalee

A few nights ago I posted asking who knew when the poster was changed from “Missing” to “Kidnapped” . I was thinking both posters were issued by the Aruban authorities.
However, my research indicates that the Holloway parents created the “Kidnapped” poster, according to Fox News.

I haven’t been able to pin down the exact date, but it appears it was created during the week of 6/6 to 6/13. My apologies for forgetting the name of the lady who was in Aruba that week and confirmed that the poster was changed during that time, but thanks again for the response.
This is the same week that the two security guards were arrested (6/6), the 3 boys were arrested (6/9), and the guards were released (6/13). Remember, the during this week (between 6/9 and 6/13), Deepak Kalpoe apologized to one of the security guards for falsely implicating him in the incident, according to Mr. John.
The Holloway parents have continued to investigate and have not amended the poster to read “Missing” or “Murdered” or “Suspect Murdered” or “Runaway” or anything of the sort. “Kidnapped” is very specific. Wishful thinking on their part? Perhaps, but I don’t think so. Mrs. Holloway is too cool headed and far too careful about what she does and does not share. Very impressive lady.
Bloggerinfo, where are you? I suspect you got in a little trouble for sharing that your relative (brother?) was a member of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and that that organization was focusing on Adarico in Venezuela for a search for Natalee.
El Diario also allegedly reported that it had been receiving tips that she has been seen in Venezuela. I read in one of these threads on Scared Monkeys that Fox or CNN was reporting that a cellphone call was made from someone in Venezuela claiming to be behind a car with someone matching Natalee’s description in it.
All this, and the Holloways seem to stay far away from discussing kidnapping or Venezuela, knowing that if they say too much, they could jeapordize the prosecution of suspects under Dutch law.
To me, it looks more and more like she was kidnapped, the “boys” know it, or left her somewhere where she could be kidnapped, and her parents are trying to contact, or negotiating with, those who have her. Got to be done in secret because if the kidnapper(s)’ anonymity is threatened, they have much less incentive to keep Natalee alive.
I also wonder why the boys are so reluctant to share what they know. Obviously, if they committed a crime, they do not want to confess and produce evidence against themselves. Call me crazy, but Natalee’s mom doesn’t seem to be saying that she believes that they killed her daughter or raped their daughter or even kidnapped her daughter. Instead she says she believes they know “what happened” to their daughter. Again, careful choice of words.
The poster continues to read kidnapped, and the Holloways very likely know much more than they are sharing?
I lean towards pessimism, the baser side of human nature being what it is. BUT, I have a feeling she is alive and we are talking ransom based in part on her potential value in the sex slave trade in South America.

My best friend and her husband chaperoned a senior trip of 160 kids down to Aruba, and she returned last night. Her husband had to stay b/c they think that one of the girls was kidnapped, and is possibly in Venezuela now. Her parents flew down, and the State Dept., DEA and several other groups are involved now. She left with a guy from Carlos and Charlie’s, and the cops found out that he is a local drug dealer. Just wanted to let everyone know to please stay safe. If anyone in Aruba has any info., please let me know. I should know more later today. Just please say a prayer.

According to Mr Twitty, Paul van der Sloot and Deepak Kalpoe ordered Joran not to say anything to the parents of Natalee, and to the investigators.
Deepak told investigators that they drove Natalee to the lighthouse, then took her back to the HI where they dropped her off around 2:00 am. Steve Croes said he saw them drop her off in the parking lot of the HI around that time.
According to Mickey John, Deepak told him he dropped Joran and Natalee off somewhere near the Mariott hotel, on their way back from the lighthouse. He apologized to him.
Deepak is now moved to the Aruba prison.

Hope: In my mind, Occam’s Razor says JVDS is not confessing because he didn’t commit a crime but is afraid to identify those he left NH with because he thinks thjey will harm him or a loved one. I tend to agree that if he had done something criminal, as a minor he would face only minor consequences, and he probably could have cut himself an ever better deal by now. I believe he is not naming names because he was associating with some hard criminals and fears the consequences of disclosing their identities.
I know when I was his age, and older, I “associated” with some unsavory people on occasion because I thought it made me cool. I would not have wanted to be placed in a situation of having to finger them for a suspected crime or get in trouble myself. I probably would have waited to see what evidence the police and prosecutors had against me before I would consider giving up names to cut myself a deal, even if that meant spending some time in jail. Prison might have been another story, which is why I praise the Aruban gov’t for notching up the pressure and moving him to KIA. Let him get a taste of where he may live for a while if he doesn’t start cooperating.
Unless they get some solid stuff on JVDS which threatens his liberty, he doesn’t have any “legal” reason to give up names. Morally, he certainly does, but his morality appears relative which is not uncommon when accused of a crime. 1. Save your own a**, first, worry about the morally correct thing later. 2. If morals clash with self-preservation, see #1. I don’t think many of us would behave differently in this regard if faced with this scenario.

- the mother reluctance to discuss her meeting with the family of the boy
- if the boy had sex with the girl no one has protested and said if that is the case it must be rape because she was a virgin before going there
- according to the boy’s mother that is his claim and now public knowledge
- yet the girls mother does not address it and hint impossible due to waiting for marriage or whatever Christian moral this community claims to be adhereing to

I watched Hannity and Colmes last night. Your friend is exaggerating a bit. The police have 8-9 additional people they plan to question. They said nothing about arrests. My guess is that there was a party somewhere and they will question the people who were at that party.
There is a dump on the island somewhere between the houses of the boys and it has not been searched. That’s hardly surprising given what it looked like. It’s a small area at what appeared to be a very small quarry. I would say it is a very unlikely spot to hide a body.
According to Jug Twitty, Joran said that he wanted to help them find Natalee, but his father and either Deepak or Satish kept saying that he shouldn’t say anything.
There was no suggestion that Joran’s dad would be arrested.
Joran’s mother told Greta that Joran said that Natalee shows up, he will beat her butt for causing all this trouble.

Its the poster that was posted on allmost every shop/bank/hotel entrance on Aruba within the few days after the disappearance.
So we can assume it was posted by her Mom and friends, family & volunteers. Taking that as a starting point it would be a poster from Mom to Natalee leading to an interpretation of the wordings that Mom expected a runaway.

i think the poster being so personal was to let nat know that her mom really was there and was looking for her. being so personal meant that if nat got loose that she would be able to run in to her family’s arms. she’s not thousands of miles away from people she knows and that love her. they were trying to comfort their daughter. and it was confirmed by the holloway family that the runaway rumor came from when natalee was three she got the front door open and ‘ran away’. hardly a troubled teen.
From the interview with Natalee’s dad it seem to me that he does think his daughter is no longer in this world and from the way they were searching they were looking for her body. I really hope she turns up alive but if not, let them find her body for her parents sake so they can take her home. That’s all the mother wants and she said she would leave as soon as she get her.

pktbk: I hope the 3 year old ‘runaway’ was the thing that started the rumor, but also other runaway stories are going round which offcourse would NEVER be confirmed by the family if true. If not true, offcourse they would not be confirmed neither, leaving us in uncertainty.
Kidnapping would have been carefully planned and more people would need to be involved, however those could be off the island.
Example: if the boys (or some or one of them) would have contacts and agree to deliver a beautiful blond US girl to some venezuelans/colombians on a agreed upon beach (against payment I suppose) where they would be waiting with a fast boat, then the vzls/cols could take her to the continent. Since the coast is closely monitored by coastguard through Radar, boat patrol and helicopter with spot light this should or at least could have been noted. It is not likely to choose a beach neer HI or Marriott in that case. A beach up north or down south would be better.
If this delivery worked then the vzls/cols would be in their home country very fast if they have a good speed boat.
Does anyone know what records of coast guard “warda nos costa” have about this evening? Any unidentified fast objects on this night?

How about when Mr. Twitty said he went looking for Joran at his house and he was not home he was at the Casino. How much control did his father have over this kid to be at a casino on a school night at “3:00 am”. He was having computer problems, I bet the feds tapped into his computer and he can no longer come on. He said he had the feeling of being watched…he was. This is so freaky to me. Considering she was 5 miles from home.

if she had runaway in the past, then i think there would be police records to prove that. especially since the rumor was she ran away to costa rico or something like that. so i don’t think she did.
just to appease us, they go on tv and give innuendos and so forth. just so we will hush for another night. then the frustration builds until someone else gets on the news. OH i do remember them saying that decisions will be made friday on the progress of this. that the lawyers are going to present the judge a ‘condensed version’ of all the evidence. then the judge will decide how to proceed. and the condensed version is to keep the judge from having to read it days before we find out his decision.

kristin-hopefully when the equu staff get there it will go quicker than nine months, like elizabeth. they actually have cadaver sniffing dogs. whereas aruba only has the drug sniffing dogs.
Sunday night is maybe a boring night, but certainly not a boring evening. There’s this place called Moomba Beach (between the HI and the Marriott, actually!!) that is very popular on Sunday late afternoon till Sunday late in the evening.

It is REALLY weird about Checkme. Does anyone personally know him? Or do we all just know him from this blog? He is a local from Aruba, who is dead on with EVERY SINGLE thing he says….except for the fact that a few days ago he said Natalee is alive, but not in Aruba…..Should I say what I’m thinking?? I’m scared I might get myself in trouble! Maybe he just has a great source of info down there…..or maybe he knows more than we care to expect.

pktbk - I had a different take than your friend I saw the biological dad and beth on fox last night and was shocked as to how calm they were - her father talks like she is dead but is so calm it is very weird……I know everyone reacts to things differently but as checkme said last night neither has shown much emotion the last two to three weeks which makes believe checkme’s theory.

crs-yeah, i heard that the vds mom was a lot more emotional and the dad looked like he would rather be anywhere else but there. i think their hope and need to stay calm makes natalee’s parents so ‘together’. but i do know that they know way more than we do. enough to help them get through this. i saw more almost tears from her bio dad than i have from anyone else though.

that was a theory that was on here once. that it was a runaway bride situation. but it’s kind of hard to keep that idea when there are four people in custody. it’s a very strange case!
Rob - that is certainly a valid point but I am not certain either how difficult it would be for her to take a boat to the Venezulea either - that is why drug trade is so prevalent in that area is because of the amount of coastline so if you smuggle drugs why not a person. For the record i believe a kidnap much more likely.

As well, if she were kidnapped, she would be of no value to the kidnappers due to all this media exposure. The kidnappers would want nothing to do with her. Otherwise, wouldn’t we have seen some sort of ransom request?

They talked about using the Texas dogs when they get there to search a dump/water hole area. The dad and whoever (I can’t remember who) were looking at the area saying it had not been searched yet.
mo-the dogs are coming with the equu team. the dump was discussed last night on tv in regards to the two brothers neighborhood.
trisher-maybe this is simply a red herring. make the real kidnappers think that the police and search teams aren’t even looking in the right spot. put the spotlight somewhere else while a secret covert search is getting closer to them.
Dutch on Aruba - I do think a boat could very well be involved. The coast guard may monitor the coast, but there is a lot of water out there. Secondly, if the boat used is very familiar to the coast guard, no red flags would go up. Also, we are assuming the coast guard is not corrupt and not paid to look the other way. Finally, even if she were killed and not kidnapped, her body was most likely dumped off the coast somewhere which requires a boat as well. That may be where that D.J. of the Tattoo comes in. He might not be able to pilot the Tattoo, but how about the smaller craft that chauffers people to and from the Tatoo?
