FROM AMY : PRESS CONFERENCE TO START AT NOON

From Amy:

To Everyone interested in the Natalee Holloway case

Everybody interested to tune it at today’s press briefings in Aruba, can tune it at noon.
At 12 PM or is it AM?, anyway it’s at noon.
You can listen live online http://www.arubadag.com or http://www.promoaruba.aw

Live Blog Press Conference:
12:24 pm – 3 suspects detained, ages 17, 18 & 21. Their houses were also raided.

12:33 PM – Press conference in Aruban first and then lets hope English. Although I am not sure if laughter at such a press conference is a good thing, esh.

12:39 pm – tactical reasons why 3 people arrested had not been done sooner and houses searched

12:43 pm – (spokes person) Not closer to knowing what happened to Natalee. Many scenarios still open

12:45 pm – Natalee met the 17 year old in casino the day before.

English Press getting a little frustrated with their comments & questions as Authorities are not allowed to answer much about investigation.

12:48 – Suspicion had grown as to why they Aruba police decided to arrest the 3 males.

12:50 – Aruba is working across its borders (Internationally) with South America in the investigation.

12:54 – Not all suspects arrested were 18 years old, Press asks why they were in Carlos And Charlie’s (good question) JACOB MUST BE LOVING THIS

Press asking whether the bar may be in trouble for having minors there?

PRESS CONFERENCE OVER – wow, total disarray. Looks like the Aruban spokesperson wanted way from the US Press ASAP.

Previously from FOX News … “The three witnesses gave information about the two guys [already in custody] and that is why they were held. If one of those two has an alibi, then the story [given by the three witnesses] doesn’t fit and therefore the two may then be released depending on the proof.”

Police also impounded a gray Honda car. Holloway’s friends reported seeing her leave a nightclub in a silver car the night she disappeared.

This is going to get more and more contentious in the future. The American Press is used to controlling the press conferences and get any info they ask. Between the difference in cultures, Dutch laws and language barriers this is going to be interesting. The tone of the conference was pretty chaotic.

      Don’t worry , I’ll be listening indeed.

Joran Andreas Petrus Van Der Sloot, the little Dutch boy, is facing some very very serious charges. Daddy the judge cannot help him now, this should be a good press conference.

I also hope they discuss the possibility of shutting down Carlos And Charlie’s for good, it is definitely a spot that does nothing but breed crime.

    2. BJ on June 9th, 2005 11:59 am

      Thank you Amy.

    3. Kortnie on June 9th, 2005 12:01 pm

I hope you’re right, Jacob. I hope those who are the perps are forced to take accountability soon.

As all instigators of attack should.

    4. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 12:27 pm

Thanx for your info, Amy. Unfortunately, after trying to listen on both links you provided, BOTH servers are overloaded.

If you can share the outcome with us, that’d be GREAT!

      Thank you!

      MOM

we were going to live blog it until we just lost the link

Guys, I think you’re devoting too much coverage to the Aruba situation. While a compelling new story, it seems to be dragging down the site.

    7. marie from maine on June 9th, 2005 12:48 pm

wow, im still just speechless over all of this

    8. BJ on June 9th, 2005 12:50 pm

Thank you Tom and Red for this site and this forum.
      I do appreciate it.

I’ll hang up now and listen.

    9. Kortnie on June 9th, 2005 12:51 pm

Jill, go on over to the Netherland Law thread to see you and me harassed. Your name was also “stolen” like mine and a disgusting, harassing post left.

      Go check it out.

    10. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 12:59 pm

I did Kortnie. This obviously is a child with mental issues, and not taking his medication.

I choose not to lower myself. Ignore it, and it will go away.

This story is really something else.

      BJ – Thanks

The American press is not used to this type of forum. WOW.

      Chris,

We are putting info out and if people can behave we will let people comment. What we are referring to ending is all comments, not news & info.

Stiull listening….I’m starting to learn a bit of dutch

    16. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:13 pm

CNN and MSNBC have yet to publish the pics I emailed them over 3 hours ago

    17. phil on June 9th, 2005 1:15 pm

Why would the police not have run parallel investigations 1) if the security guard story was correct and 2) if the boys were lying (high probability) and they were involved.

Now the boys have had time to destroy evidence and go over their stories.

As always the way police/politicians handle the event may end up being worst than the event itself (i.e., Watergate on down). That is, tourists could handle a random act of violence (if that is what it is), but the inability of authorities to deal with it could be bad news…a perceived lack of law enforcement. I hope they “get it together”…

    18. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:17 pm

Ok..so what’s this about extending the investigation into South America…

    19. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:18 pm

leads me to believe she may still be alive

    20. phil on June 9th, 2005 1:18 pm

Next thing you know the CIA will be called in…of course we will never know that…

    21. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 1:18 pm

      Phil:
Better to have a strong case than a weak one…
I’ve seen cases thrown out on ‘technicalities’. I understand your frustration…but it’s probably the ‘due process’ thing.

But, chances are…one of the three will break. Police will know how use one man against the other. Just wait & see!

    22. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:21 pm

      poor kids are only 18…

they don’t stand a chance against 20 feds

    23. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:21 pm

still can’t believe that an 18 year old would have the connections to sell her into sex slavery…

    24. phil on June 9th, 2005 1:21 pm

      MOMfromMO Says:

I can be persuaded in that direction but it seems that they acted so quickly on the security guards with little disclosed evidence…and very very slowing with the boys.

In the States…I think we would be hearing from the Rev. Jackson…huh?

    25. mrs. red on June 9th, 2005 1:22 pm

      Chris,
if they are guilty of any wrong doing, they don’t deserve a chance

    26. Jacob on June 9th, 2005 1:22 pm

As of 1pm, it was reported that the FBI is back in Alabama interviewing the 100+ students that also were on the trip.

The little Van Sloot dutch boy probably can’t believe his bad luck, he thought some Aruban Barney Fife’s officers driving little subcompact cars would be handling this investigation, Van Sloot must have made a mess in his pants when the FBI showed up with forensics teams, diving teams, computer forensic teams, the little dutch boy Van Sloot probably didn’t think about that in his wildest dreams.

Van Sloot’s daddy the Judge cannot help him now, Van Sloot was last seen with a green towel over his head getting into the back of a cop car like a common criminal, next objective is to get that crime joint Carlos N Charlies shut down for good and the management thrown in jail for being accessories to multiple counts of assault over the years.

    27. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 1:23 pm

      Chris:
Poor Natalee was only 18. She didn’t stand a chance against three sick men.

Think I’ll hold my sympathy for later.

Not trying to think the worst…but I have no sympathy for the suspects. I am trying to keep an open mind, however.

    28. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:23 pm

Johnie Cochran would be all over this one if he were still here with us.

    29. marie from maine on June 9th, 2005 1:24 pm

chris c’monnnnn? “poor kids” you have to be kidding me!!! They are little sexual deviants, not innocent babies- give me a break, really

      Phil:
You may be correct regarding the Rev. (whom I don’t hold in very high regard)…but it’s hard to speculate since a LOT of details have not been released…It will eventually.

      whatever geez

    33. marie from maine on June 9th, 2005 1:27 pm

hahah- no kidding – just one tone only no saraasm or anything..

    34. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 1:27 pm

      I’m with ya, Chris ;)

      *feelin’ the sarcasm*

    35. phil on June 9th, 2005 1:27 pm

      Jacob…finally I can agree with you…

I get a feeling the FBI has been there for a week just going crazy over the direction this case was moving in…

Even the US media missed this one…O’Reilly totally botched an interview last night. He and his guest where mixing the security guards up with the boys.

    36. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:27 pm

still listening to the 95 station…they’re bashing O’riely and Nancy Grace in Dutch…

      kind of humorous

    37. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 1:29 pm

Nancy Grace is highly respected in my book. I’m sure she has ‘torn these suspects apart on her show…but understandably. Nancy’s fiance was murdered in the past. She is a loyal victim’s advocate. I can’t justify O’Reilly’s comments…But Nancy…sure can.

    38. Jacob on June 9th, 2005 1:30 pm

      I’m holding a vigil myself.

that the little dutch boy Van Sloot doesn’t get molested too severely in jail tonight, we need him to stick around to face the upcoming charges

after trying to pin the blame on 2 black hotel workers, I’m sure the other black prisoners in that jail won’t be too kind to the little dutch boy Van Sloot

imagine if Van Sloot’s cell is close by to the cell of the 2 hotel workers who are still being detained, there could be a little rumble in that jail tonight

Van Sloot has loads of problems right now, and with any luck, the management and workers of Carlos N Charlies will soon be behind bars with Van Sloot facing serious charges themselves.

    39. phil on June 9th, 2005 1:30 pm

They should…we all have a better handle of the few facts then either one.

    40. mrs. red on June 9th, 2005 1:30 pm

Chris – with kids that have “connections” to selling drugs – way beyond pot, I am talking hard core drugs, herion, etc – why couldn’t these boys have that connection? True, it doesn’t seem too likely but ya never know…..

hey, is it confirmed that they have started moving the investigation into other areas as someone earlier said??

    41. Red on June 9th, 2005 1:31 pm

I almost punched my monitor when I heard that it was “tactical reasons” why they had not yet arrested or impounded anything from these guys.

What like destroying evidence? That’s tactical.

    42. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:32 pm

      makes me sick

    43. phil on June 9th, 2005 1:33 pm

Could this be a drug payoff?

Maybe the boys got in trouble (I understand many US student gamble heavily) with the wrong kind of people…needed to cut a deal…

OK…may it the start of a good book…Tom Clancy where are you?

    44. Jacob on June 9th, 2005 1:34 pm

Things are also getting worse for the chaperones, not only did they let Natalee into the crime joint of Carlos N Charlies, a restaurant that encourages young women to remove clothing and drink heavily, but the chaperones also let her into a casino.

    45. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 1:34 pm

      Jacob,
Are you going to be the Prosecutor? Honestly! While I agree that CnC’s establishment should be investigated, and justice should be served toward any suspects,

It’s not just open & shut. You have to collect evidence, question hundreds of people, make a case…only to submit to the judge for HIM to decide what can be presented. Once that’s done, then it’s up to 12 people on a jury to decide the case on what is PRESENTED.

Please be realistic…your point is forever embedded in our brains, but you’re taking away from your input…it’s repeated enough.

      Thanx for listening.

    46. Jacob on June 9th, 2005 1:37 pm

Don’t worry Mom From Missouri, evidence is being collected as we speak, people in at least 2 countries as of now are being questioned by the FBI, and as for the Judge have the discretionary power to decide on what evidence is introduced, we may have to appoint our own judge, with such a small island – the judges there are probably friends with Van Sloot’s dad who is a prominent figure in government and who is learning to be a judge. With the FBI there, seems they are bypassing the rinky-dink Barney Fife style Aruban police department, we may also have to bypass their little hillbilly court system and get real judges in there.

    47. slowmo on June 9th, 2005 1:37 pm

      WOW!

    48. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 1:40 pm

      Jacob,
      You could write a Murder-Mystery!!!

But, with all due respect, it would have to be located in the “Fiction Aisle”.

Please be realistic. I’m only giving constructive criticism to help you…I agree with you, but you’re not being taken seriously, as your ideas are sooooo out there.

      Respectfully, Jill

    49. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 1:40 pm

unfortunaltely while we can send in investigators we have absolutely zero jurisdiction in what goes on in Aruba…

But it seems what happens in Aruba, isn’t going to stay in Aruba for long..

    50. Lupie on June 9th, 2005 1:43 pm

What was the vibe like in the club that night?

    51. Kortnie on June 9th, 2005 1:45 pm

Jacob, how do you know that Aruba has a “rinky-dink police dept.” and a “hillbilly court system?” Wouldn’t their Netherlands connection provide for more sophisticated public servants?

    52. Jacob on June 9th, 2005 1:47 pm

Believe me, when the USA makes up the majority of tourism to Aruba, and with Tourism making up the majority of Aruba, whatever the USA says – the little islanders down in Aruba better go along with. And if the little Arubans don’t like it, then the State Department needs to ban all travel to that place on the spot, I bet then the Arubans will hand over the little Van Sloot boy and let him be tried in a court with a real judge, not some Aruban puppet judge that is friends with Van Sloot’s dad, the prominent member of government in Aruba. Time to send a strong message to these little islands that prey on young Americans, if they don’t want to shape up themselves, we have no problems of going down there and shaping up the dumps ourselves.

    53. Quart Knee on June 9th, 2005 1:48 pm

      Netherlands police are much better!
Last time in Amsterdam, I could tell they were in the process of ‘sweeping the city clean’.
By 2007, the goal is to be a new city modeled after Otumwa, Iowa.

    54. Lupie on June 9th, 2005 1:49 pm

What was the vibe in the club like that night Natallee was there?

Can we keep this focused, folks?

Also…Lupie, I don’t know of anyone on this forum that was at CnC’s that fateful night…

I wish your question could be answered, however.

    65. Kortnie on June 9th, 2005 1:58 pm

JUST LEAVE ME ALONE YOU CREEP!

    66. Jacob on June 9th, 2005 1:58 pm

Joran Van Sloot met Natalee the day before in the casino. He had previous interaction before leaving the Carlos N Charlie’s crime joint with her. This looks like now it could have been premeditated somewhat, and with his friends joining in, looks like it could be aggravating circumstances, if we bring this little Dutch boy and throw him in an Alabama court, we could pin a Death Penalty case on him. Kidnapping, Planning, Rape, Murder, if that is how it went down, I would strongly suggest that Aruba hand the little dutch boy over to Alabama and let him face the Death Penalty, time to teach these little islands and shady restaurants south of the border a good lesson.

    67. Gabriel Leo on June 9th, 2005 1:58 pm

Dear Jacob. I have been reading your comments, which has been attacking my island without no mercy.

Not going in discussion with you but I do want to inform you that the Dutch system is the most objective and judgemental system in the World.
The dutch have the international crime court in the Hague, which The US wanted to carry Saddam Hussein to be put on trial. Our Supreme court is the Hague, Netherlands.
International war crimes are brought in front of dutch judges. Now what makes you say that our System is Hill billy like? At least we don’t lock up innocent people like the US system does. So have faith in ours. If they have done something, it will be handle the right way.

And an update…the local media tried to interview the fox news Reporters about the O’Reilly they all declined and said no comment.
Where is objectivity now? You can trash us, but when we want to find out where, why, your reporters are trashing Aruba with lies, they say no comment.

Life is not fair as I tell my sons everyday . I wish it were, but it is not. So we have to live with the cards we are dealt.

Red and I are paying cash money to keep this site going, and as such we reserve the right to delete or modify any comment. We also recognize that the site is an open forum and as well as we try to keep our eyes open we will miss things. We have 14 different posts that are being commented on right now.

SweetPea, you haven’t been here to see all of the harassment I’ve taken from this deviant (who thinks I’m a lesbian for some reason?)!

      I finally got that little creep’s attention, didn’t I?

    90. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 2:09 pm

      Kortnie,
With all due respect…take a step back…if you feel you are truly being harrassed (and I understand that you may be), you should consider finding another forum.

I like ya here…don’t get me wrong…but you’re only welcoming the harrassment.

      Respectfully, Jill

STOP USING MY NAME YOU THIEF AND DEVIANT

    93. SweetPea on June 9th, 2005 2:10 pm

      OK.

I hope things calm down now. I was somewhat frieghtened.

This site seems to have more information than others I view.
I am looking foreard to breaking news.

Thank you to all who have provided useful information and thought provoking ideas.

Okay , I’m back, no new developments in the last hour or so, although the Attorney General of Aruba was on the news, I don’t place too much trust in her, I wouldn’t even trust her handling a missing bicycle complaint. The Aruban government has been known to stonewall investigations before and to not cooperate with parents of missing children, Aruba is also a huge transient point for drug runners, it is a location where drugs are then transported on to Europe and North America. And with such young children being able to enter casinoes and bars, all the dirt of Aruba is finally being exposed. And Aruba’s crime rates will certainly come into question, seems that Aruba is doctoring up their crime stats as to make it look like a safer island than it is – since high crime rates would ruin their tourism business. You got a lot of people in Aruba trying to cover stuff up, the government covering stuff up, officials covering stuff up, the son of a soon-to-be-Judge now in jail….

    95. Quart Knee on June 9th, 2005 2:11 pm

I am not typing under any other name than this.
That much I will tell you.
Also, I don’t know who is.
I still think you are a man-hating, borderline ragaholic, but I am not impersonating you.
      Psycho.

    96. marie from maine on June 9th, 2005 2:11 pm

and she is getting a little annoying (- sorry i had to say it)
IGNORE them and stop wasting our time reasing this banter…PLEASE?
      Thank you for understanding-

    97. Chris Lupu on June 9th, 2005 2:11 pm

umm..it appears this same nut is trying (unsuccesfully) to impersonate me as well..

    98. Kortnie on June 9th, 2005 2:13 pm

But, I AM a victim here, marie – of stolen identity and sexual/verbal harassment.

Believe me, if it was you you wouldn’t be so complacent about it.

    99. John on June 9th, 2005 2:16 pm

Little bit of info for the mis-informed Gabriel Leo……..Not only is the percapita income of Aruba NOT second in the Caribbean only to Puerto Rico, it happens to be above Puerto Rico, but Significantly below the Cayman Islands ! Considering the fact that 70% of the GDP of Aruba is derived from tourism, coupled with the fact that 73% of that 70% is from US tourists, it would be prudent on the part of Aruba to solve this disappearance rather quickly, and appropriately punish those responsible, otherwise the “new” per capita income of Aruba might fall just below that of Haiti !

    100. marie from maine on June 9th, 2005 2:16 pm

whaaaah! if you call this harrassment wait till you join the real world sweetie,, IGNORE the banter ir you are just as guilty as whoever is bothering .. because you are being selfish to the rest of us that think there are bigger issues than how someone makes you feel in a chat rooom, please PLEASE stop it!

    101. Red on June 9th, 2005 2:17 pm

There is a rule of thumb called “don’t feed the trolls”. Why no one can comprehend this idea is beyond me. Stick to the topic and move on, everyone does not have to respond to every “personal” comment. We provide a forum, use it responsibly.

    102. MOMfromMO on June 9th, 2005 2:17 pm

Okay…here’s a challenge…maybe if we can share a little about ourselves….we’ll seem more human to each other…instead of a computerized visual.

      I’ll go first:

My name is Jill, I’m 41 liviing in Springfield, MO. I have 3 awesome children ages 23, 20 and 12. I have a boyfriend of 5 1/2 years, and we are discussing the possibility of making a further commitment. We have recently purchase a lakefront home and are very excited about it! The lake is soooo peaceful!

I work as a Project Manager for a Construction Co., and manage all construction regarding Healthcare projects.

I have lived in MO since 1985, and my hobbies are fishing, tennis, and funny as it sounds….Barbie collecting.

Hope you didn’t mind my rambling, Tom & Red.

      ANYONE ELSE LIKE TO SHARE???

      Praying for Natalee…………still.

    103. Tom on June 9th, 2005 2:18 pm
