Natalee Holloway, Updates June 8, 2005

8:30 am EDT – CNN
Two suspects lawyers say their clients are accused of murder, but vow they are innocent.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (CNN) — The lawyer for two men held in Aruba in the disappearance of an 18-year-old Alabama student says his clients stand accused of homicide.

The two men, who are hotel security guards, are to appear in court Wednesday, when prosecutors could lay out the case against them. They have not been formally charged.

Prosecutors on Tuesday ordered the two men to remain detained, saying there was “reasonable suspicion” the men were involved in “certain criminal acts.”

The men’s lawyer, Chris Lejuez, told CNN that his clients are accused of homicide, being accomplices to homicide and kidnapping leading to homicide in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, who vanished in the early hours of May 30 while on a celebratory senior trip to Aruba with her classmates.

Lejuez said prosecutors are looking at his clients as possible murder suspects, but he vowed they are innocent.

“They had not been near the hotel at that hour at that time,” he said. “So, there is no reason for them to have to admit to something that they did not do.”

He added that he has not been able to see the full statements his clients have allegedly made to police.

One of the reasons why we need to wait to hear all the facts before jumping to any conclusions.

According to WOAI (San Antonio), “The two men police are holding deny any connection to her“.

9:00 am – Birmingham News

ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Two men arrested in the disappearance of a Mountain Brook teen are expected to appear before a judge today.

They face possible charges that include murder, homicide and kidnapping resulting in death, said their court-appointed attorney, Chris Lejuez.

Under the legal system in Aruba, prosecutors can propose a range of charges and may add more later, he said. A spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office would not comment on what crimes the men are accused of, but said they have not been formally charged.

Lejuez confirmed that his clients had been recently laid off by the Allegro, which had changed its security contract. He said they had no prior criminal record, although one of the two was detained for being involved in a fight.

On Sunday, a police source told The Birmingham News that the two men were known drug dealers. On Tuesday, police spokesman Papito Comemencia said he could not comment.

Defense attorneys will argue the following at hearing today:

Lejuez said he plans to argue that prosecutors cannot prove Holloway was slain unless they can produce a body. “They have been charged with something that the prosecution cannot prove happened,” he said.

At today’s hearing, which will be closed to the public, Judge J.S. Kuiperdal is expected to determine whether police can continue to detain the two suspects. If he rules in the prosecution’s favor – and Lejuez says that happens in 99 percent of cases – the men may be held for an another seven days before they must appear before a judge once more.

Although the men have been informed of the crimes they may face, they will not be formally indicted until the investigation is complete and prosecutors are ready to go to trial, van der Biezen said.

10:30 am – Fox News: One of the suspects is in a hearing right now in Aruba. Suspects name has been provided 28 year old Abraham Jones and 30-year-old Nicky John.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — An Aruba judge would likely rule Wednesday whether authorities have enough evidence to continue holding two former security guards in connection with the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.

One of the suspects, 28-year-old Abraham Jones, appeared in court around 10:30 a.m. EDT. The other was named as 30-year-old Nicky John, though the spelling of his name couldn’t immediately be confirmed.

UPDATE: 12:30 pm EDT
From CNN, Judge orders suspects to be held in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (CNN) — An Aruba judge ruled Wednesday that there was enough evidence to detain the two men suspected in the disappearance of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway.

The ruling allows authorities to hold the men, identified as Nick John and Abraham Jones, for eight days.

The two men, both hotel security guards, had been expected to make court appearances Wednesday, but the judge decided instead to visit the men in jail because of publicity surrounding the case. The men were being held separately on opposite sides of the island.

Led by a tip, police on Sunday arrested Jones and John in the oil-refining town of San Nicolas. Chris Lejuez, the defense attorney for one of the men, told CNN that authorities have mentioned charging the men, ages 28 and 30, with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide, and kidnapping leading to death.

“Both of them are very concerned,” he said. “They are nervous. They know they are being suspected of something very heavy, very serious, but they are confident, both of them. And they have shown that confidence to me, that they very categorically deny being involved in this case.”

From Fox News, mother of one of the suspects thinks her son is being framed.

Both suspects have said they were nowhere near the blonde honors student’s hotel on the Caribbean island the night she vanished — so far without a trace.

Jones’ mother told FOX News outside the courtroom that her son was at home sick the night in question. She also said she thought her son and the other suspect in custody were being framed.

Jones’ girlfriend, Cynthia De Graf, also said he was innocent.

1:15 pm – From America’s Most Wanted. (Missing Person’s)

“They both say that during the time” of the disappearance, “they were not at the (girl’s) hotel and they don’t know this girl,” Lejuez told The Associated Press.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are to the Holloway & Twitty families. God be with them

    2. Kortnie on June 8th, 2005 1:41 pm

I’m glad to read that the judge has decided there IS enough evidence to hold these two lowlifes in jail. I’m ready for all the bullshit to stop concerning Natalee’s whereabouts and what happened to her. I’m ready for Natalee to get as much justice as she’ll ever get – which is these two sociopaths being punished to to the fullest extent of Dutch Law.

“Framed?” – Oh, that’s humorous. Only an idiot would buy that ridiculous excuse. Right, and OJ was framed by the LAPD! Gimme a break…!

    3. LOLA on June 8th, 2005 5:39 pm

      Kortnie,
Where do you live? I am an Arubian resident. Do you personally know the two security guards that were arrested or anything about the Dutch law? I know both of the men, and they are far from “LOWLIFES” One is married with children. If you are intelligent enough to write a letter than you should be intelligent enough to not BELIVE every thing you read in the media. How would you feel if this was you brother?
Natalie and her friends had consumed alchohol that day and that evening at Carlos and Charlies. How do we not know that she did not go for a swim and drown. many, many tourist go swimming late at night at the hotels and the currents are strong.
I am tired of people like you coming to their own conclusions about our island and our people.
Before you hang these two security guards lets find out the whole story.
I hope you never sit on a jury because the accused person would get the death penalty guilty or not.

    4. Melissa on June 8th, 2005 5:44 pm

What I want to know is where were her friends and the chaperones? What kind of friend would go off and leave their friend alone in a foreign country? I am an adult and even when I went out with my friends locally, we would never just leave without the other friend. If there is anyone it blame, it should be Natalee’s friends and chaperone. They should have cared enough about her to make sure she was safe and not left alone. My heart goes out to this family They thought because the trip had chaperones that their daughter would be safe. Let this be a lesson to other parents when thinking about sending your child to a foreign country for a senior trip.

    5. SICKOFEXCUSES on June 8th, 2005 6:31 pm

Lola might be French and not Arubian. Listen to those ridiculous excuses. If you know these men, you need to get off the internet and see to it they return Natalee alive. These men have criminal histories and just because one of them is married with children DOES NOT MAKE HIM INNOCENT. He was clearly involved. Also, since the same thing happened 7 years ago with Amy Bradley (3 men, 1 young girl disappears and the same bar involved) you need to grasp reality about your friends. Or perhaps are you involved as well? 10 FBI agents wouldn’t be there if they thought this was an irresponsible drunk teenager that drowned. There IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO PROVE FOUL PLAY. Who cares what law is involved? Whether it be Dutch or American – a crime was committed by a bunch of low life pathetic scoundrels and they should be hunted down like dogs and forced to experience the same atrocities they put Natalee through.

Take your ignorance and liberal views elsewhere. Most Americans are sick of being victimized and pushed around by criminals.

    6. John on June 8th, 2005 7:47 pm

Why are the three young men who admitted taking this young girl to a remote beach
and having sexual relations with her, not in custody as well, since, to this moment, their claim that they returned her to her hotel after this tryst cannot and has not been substantiated whatsoever ? Looks like political connections of the father of one of these miscreants has been exercised over local authorities to take the focus of this investigation completely off of his son and his friends. Since the last time the girl was
verifiably seen was i the company of these “persons of interest”, why has the focus EVER shifted from them ?

    7. Leila on June 9th, 2005 12:28 am

The focus was shifted from these “persons of intrest”, because the father of one of these … is a judge. How about that for a son. Can’t imagine what the judge’s wife must feel like when she serves her beloved son breakfast in the morning. You know, after a real boys nite out. Clearly they have put Natalee in a state of confusion and disbelieve, I pressume. All three admitted they had ‘consented’ sexual activities going on.
Also I think one should consider the fact that a prolongation of the detention of the other guys can ultimataly lead to nothing. The only thing (known to me) that was cause for concern was the fact that their statements were not completely congruent. Which in essence can mean a lot of things as to why that has happened. Many people get even up to 3 prolongations and still after that have to be set free. Means nothing yet. Got to admit, it at least “looks good” that somebody is locked up, or not?
The main concern for the aruban population is that our government is looking for a “black” sheep. We, Arubans, don’t want the world to know that the killer(s) might be still on the loose, do we??!

    8. Lisa on June 9th, 2005 4:36 pm

Isn’t it weird that such a proper honor student would have sexual relations with not one, but three guys. These three guys sound like they are guility and since they have connections. The other two guys will suffer. Hopefully, she will be found. Our prayers in Florida are with the family. They really need to put somekind of tracking device on criminals. Maybe these people would be less incline to commit a crime, if the police could just punch in some numbers and track the criminals whereabouts past and present.

    9. sandra Bilello on June 10th, 2005 4:42 am

I think this entire Investigation is really STRANGE!!! I am very thankful the Arubians have finally arrested the three men that were last seen with Natalee. I trust it is not too little, too late> I am most concerned about DNA evidence possibly being destroyed after so much tme has elasped. It would be easy to clear the slate of any or all evidence in eleven days, assuming there is any to destroy. It is disturbing to me that the Police didn’t hold the three “Person’s of Interst” when they first questioned them.I only know what i have heard in the press, I do not pretend to know the circumstances on that dreadful night Natalee went missing. I do however believe we(general public) is told only what theywant us to know. Something is terribly wrong about this whole thing…….There are simply too many things tha DONT ADD UP. I trust they will get the facts together in a manner condusive to Criminal Law. Everyone should know the facts of this case as they know them. My Heartfelt Prayers go out to ALL the families involved in this Tragedy.

    10. char on June 11th, 2005 6:20 am

For those so sure that the security guards ( 2 low lifes/scoundrels, etc…) were guilty, do you now feel that the three “rich” boys are confessing to protect them? Did the guards erase the portions of surveillance tapes that showed Natalee returning? How clever? How dare they use the “I am innocent exuse”…Of course they’re guilty!!!Historically , black men have always been guilty of crimes against white women. Oh no, wait !!! The police have that other confession; and, are being led to the body by the NON security guards…Where are YOUR excuses??? Where are your posts and comments now? I have noticed that you have failed to retract your statements. I am inclined to think that it is due to your obvious ignorance and racist ideals.

    11. Chad on June 11th, 2005 9:54 pm

It never fails White America once again finds a way to use racism and bully its way for White Justice. Thank GOD this is International News rather than a National one, so everyone can see your so called JUSTICE.

Oh by the way There’s a DVD out called Girls Gone Wild! If you want to know what your teenage All American Girl is doing while away from home check the DVD out. Stop trying to protect Natalie’s reputation and let the obvious truth be known that:

      1. This girl voluntarily left with three young men.
      2. She may have been drinking and or doing drugs.
      3. Her so-called friends didn’t even accompany her…..WHY?

Her friends hold more clues than anyone else, but for some reason everyones tight lip about it.

    12. Fieregirl on June 12th, 2005 12:18 pm

I am shocked and disgusted that this tragic situation has allowed racism to rear it’s ugly head on both sides. I believe that this beautiful young lady did not deserve whatever has happened to her. She deserved to have a safe and fun vacation and to return home to her family. For those of you who look down on her for possibly drinking and doing drugs maybe needs to step back and look on your own bar leaping experiences. It does not mean that she deserved to disappear or that anyone (black or white) had the right to force her into something against her will. Similar excuses are that a girl deserves to be raped because she wore revealing clothing. Wake up already, you people are either extremely young or extremely ignorant to be so busy arguing your side on the “black man” syndrome that we have forgotten that a teenage girl with her whole life ahead of her is gone. Those men who are in custody may be inconvenienced for a few days and even embarassed a little bit, however, they still have their life and their family and they know where their family members are. I hope their confessions can help bring closure to a family who are obviously hurting. Maybe we should be putting more energy into figuring out what happens to young, caucasian women when they visit your island instead of attacking the victims.

    13. ScaredBlackGuy on June 12th, 2005 2:08 pm

Well I am pretty sure we can all (Black Guys) sit back and breathe a sigh of relief since we know the Aruban Black security guards were not driving around the island

    14. ScaredBlackGuy on June 12th, 2005 2:30 pm

Well I am pretty sure we can all (Black Guys) sit back and breathe a sigh of relief since we know the Aruban Black security guards were not driving around the island with a bloodied Honda.

So many of you have screamed for justice for this young woman but I wonder how many of you would accept responsibility if God forbid some “inspired” idiot acted on the two guards before we found out the truth…..and yes I believe the truth is the three prominate guys did it and did it all without any contact with the guards. How many of you outraged “citizens” would’ve helped or stood by if mob action on the guards had occured?

I wish all young American women would open their eyes and see the world as it really is. You can’t believe in the blond, blue-eyed, crew-cut as a safe harbor. Men are men and we come in many different packages BAD and good. I really believe this same young woman would’ve exercised more caution if not common sense if this guy looked like the guards. I doubt she’d left the bar with them and I doubt she’d have sat in the back of a car kissing one of them while the other sat upfront and watched.

The people who use this case to talk about O.J. are the same kind of people who gave him the out in the first place. Any rational Black person knows O.J. did it but how could you convict him when a clear and devout racist led his investigation? Michael Jackson is a pedophile (in my opinion) and I would vote to convict if I were on the jury
but for some reason no Blacks were selected (so don’t blame us if he walks).

The sad fact is Ms. Holloway made a serious judgement error that she probably made because she consumed a little too much to drink and maybe thought just one more adventure before her flight the next morning would be a lasting memory. She is the victim and she bears no blame but young White women please open your eyes and see the content of the man not just his class or color. I just bet if the two guards would’ve came upon Ms. Holloways situation before it’s finality, they would’ve secured her saftey and given the snot-nosed, spoiled, rapist(s) the attention they surely received before the Aruban police decided to take a second look at their 3 “witnesses”.

Natlies parents are to blame for this, you never let a young girl go to a place like this with eight people to watch over 125 students, come on give me a break wake up its 2005 we know what goes on out there in this world we live in. My niece went to Hawaii 4 years ago for grad. 10 students and 5 adults, my brother and I went with her, no way was she going to be there with anyone but her family to watch over her, and we ran into some weired things. Parents need to grow-up and smell the real world.

This is real sad, but let’s wake up folks, an honor student is not a prerequisite for an angel. I was an honor student, and president of Future Business Leaders of America, and binge drank and did drugs regularly at that age. She did not deserve this, but I agree with the others, wake up, take care of your own, stick together when traveling abroad, even if you’re in paradise. Chaperones, friends and parents need to be asking themselves some real questions as well. I pray for a good ending, but like many have a bad feeling in my heart.

THis is really a sad story. There is no one to blame but the crazy bassters that knw what they have done to Natallee. YOu can’t blame the parents you have to raise and love your children. No one is oerfect but GOD and when is ready for us to come home ihe’s ready. But I do PRAY and HOPE for the safe return for Natalee. But no one has the right to blame the parents you have to allow your ids to live there on life. Who knew that the trip would have turned out like it has. Out of 125 students we may want to ask “GOD” : WHY NATALLE

This should definitely be a wake up call for parents…..however there has been no
remorse shown by the Van Dor Sloot family or the Kalpoe family….all they care about
is saving their bastard sons…they could care less about what has happen to Natalee.
I think it is high time the American people send Aruba a message…..let’s boycott
Aruba and see how fast it goes down the toilet…..the way this case is being handled
is a disgrace……These bastards probably put the date rape drug in her drink. What
kind of parents let their 17 year old sons run wild and gamble in casinos….drink in bars…and heaven knows what else…..let’s see know these bastards have come up with 9-15 different stories….what does that tell you?

      BOYCOTT ARUBA!!

i think everyone here is more guilty than any of these boys. Do you see how quickly you’ve thrown away the constitution and would deny any of them due process. What evidence is there at all that Natalee was murdered?

I’m afraid each and everyone of you are guilty of prosecuting through the press, when in fact Natalee is not dead! That’s right, guess what day she’s gonna be back? Lookd for the day Natalee turns 6888 days old and missing for 92 days. Ill make it easy for you 8/30/2005.

You see, it all goes to illustrate a point. The constitution means nothing to you. And yes, I am aware, that these boys do not fall under our constitution but upi certainly do. In fact, thanks to the patriot act, our consitution is null and void.

After, 8/30 comes and you believe me the next thing im gonna tell you is there will not even be a 2008 election. That’s right through a staged dirty bomb attack gw will declare martial law and that’s that because in fact that will mark the start of the tribulation.

As a matter of fact 8/30/2005 marks 1449 days after 9/11 amd 1049 days before 7/14/2008 which marks the beginning of the tribulation.

and it all began with a room number, Natalee’s room number to be exact, 7114. Natalee Holloway is in fact a pointer to the two witnesses.

      Hyperqube

and as for these calls to boycott aruba, in this week alone a pregnant mother was found dead. Just how many murders go unsolved here? Are you a hyprocrite? Don’t you know that hyprocrites fall into the same class as idolaters and liars, and fornicators?

      peace
