Aruban Authorities Announce Island Search
From the 11:30 am Press Conference this morning Aruban authorities ask civil servants to take day off and help in the search for Natalee Holloway. From the AP:
Soldiers, police and islanders combed Aruba’s scrubland and beaches Monday while the Coast Guard scoured waters around the island, a day after police charged two men in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager. Authorities also asked the FBI to send a dive team to search waters with rough currents.
The government of this Dutch Caribbean island also announced on the radio that civil servants could take time off to help in the search for Natalee Holloway, 18, of Mountain Brook, Ala.
12:40 pm EDT: The Aruban government has asked 4,000 public employees to meet at a sports stadium in the central community of Santa Cruz at 2 p.m. EDT to begin an island search.
Aruba – The government called on thousands of civil servants and tourists to join in a massive islandwide search Monday for a missing Alabama teenager, while police, soldiers and FBI agents combed scrubland and beaches.
The announcement came a day after police charged two men in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, 18, of Mountain Brook, Ala. The honors student vanished May 30 during a five-day trip to Aruba with more than 100 other classmates celebrating their high school graduation.
The Dutch Caribbean island’s government asked most of the 4,000 public employees to meet at a sports stadium in the central community of Santa Cruz at 2 p.m. EDT to be briefed on “a systematic search,” police commander Trudy Hassell said.
“We hope there will be thousands,” Hassell said in the capital, Oranjestad. “This effort is a national effort. We feel with the family.”
Also as previously mentioned by one of our Aruban commenter’s, Amy.
Basically what came out from the news conference that ended at 11.49 AM, is what the police is asking the public of Aruba today.
“The Arubian Government declared today “National Natalee Holloway Day” which means that everybody that works for the government of Aruba has more or less the day off from work to go and recruit in a town called Santa Cruz. There they’ll be forming search parties and then send off to different parts of the island to search for Natalee Holloway. The 10th, 11th and 12th graders of all highschools will also be joining the search parties.
The search start around 2 PM, local time”
Can listen to different media outlets in Aruba for Press Conference and probably later media coverage at stadium at 2:00pm. (video & audio) Galactica presently having press conference in English.

CAN YOU GIVE US THE MOST RECENT UPDATE…..ALSO…WHAT TIME DIFFERENCE IS THERE BETWEEN ARUBA AND US?
THE US ON THAT MESSAGE IS REFERRING TO THE UNITED STATES; STANDARD TIME.
I believe Aruba’s local time is same as US Standerd Time. All I know is we are on the same time as someone in Orlando, Florida. So no time difference. Well it depends where you are in the United States that is.
The first group of civilian volunteers has been assigned to the eastern part of the island, Seroe Colorado specificaly to an area known as Colony. (Seroe Colorado is neighboring area the police were searching on Sunday, the supposed Zuart Mangel)
In colony they’ll be searching thoroughly in rundown houses that have been standing there for quite a few decades.
Packed with water and wooden sticks all groups are companied by 5 Dutch marines who will be only searching areas that haven’t been searched before.
Not much of an update but that’s all I have untill now. The search officialy began at 2.30 PM in the Seroe Colorado area.
It is important that the news and the american public, not put a bunch of pressure on teh island of Aruba. Look up Rebecca Middleton and Bermuda. She was a canadian young girl that got brutally murdered in another small island a few years back. the murderers got off because the officials were so eager to get a suspect and a conviction and press charges that they didnt go through ALL of the proper channels. Let their law system work itself out, that way there is less chance of a mess up/ mix up and there is a greater chance that the guilty persons will be found guilty
