I am off for a week for vacation

DeltaRed will be the keeper of the flame, and I will drop in on occasion to stir the pot. Maybe do some photoblogging to show what I am doing. I plan on a combination of rum and beach and kids and driving on the wrong side of the road. So in reality, very little rum and lots of the other 3.

So I am leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again…

If you want, have some terrible lines from terrible songs in the comments. Give me something to laugh about after a full day of travel with small kids.

Terri Schiavo Has Passed Away. God Rest Her Soul

10:00 EDT: Just in from Fox News … Terri Schiavo has passed away in her Florida Hospice. After a a 14 day battle against starvation and dehydration, Terri has passed on.

Family representatives confirm brain-damaged woman passed away in Florida hospice; parents were denied access to daughter’s bedside in final hours

God Bless you, Theresa Marie Schiavo. You are in much better hands now than you were just an hour ago. God take care of you & bless you.

More here from CNN

More from Wizbang including a nice photo tribute.

I am actually almost unable to express my views on this matter because I am personally astounded that with all the media attention, all the questionable issues with this case, all that was right and wrong that Terri was abandoned by those in this country that are supposed to be there to protect her. Lorie at PoliPundit expresses exactly the same thought,

I find it almost impossible to believe that with the support of both Republicans and Democrats, with worldwide media attention and with access to both state and federal court systems, Terri’s family was not able to save their daughter.

I too, must sit back and reflect on my feelings regarding this matter. God bless you Terri, and may peace be with you, your family and friends and all the people who have supported you and been your voice along the way.

UPDATE: My buddy James Hudnall has a great perspective on the matter and since I border on sorrow and anger right now I may have to defer to his well written and thought out point.

Go to Michelle Malkin very a very nice post on Terri. Nice touch.

Maine Gay Rights Bill Not a Gateway To Gay Marriage, Ay-yah

According to AP, State lawmakers gave final approval Wednesday night to a bill to protect gays and lesbians from discrimination. It was expected to be signed Thursday by Gov. John Baldacci.

The bill would amend the Maine Human Rights Act by making it illegal to discriminate in employment, housing, credit, public accommodations and education based on sexual orientation or gender identity

You may want to take note of this passage and the time and date that these comments were made as I guarantee you this bill will be used as a stepping stone to attempt to pass gay marriage in the State of Maine.

The measure gained ground Wednesday with agreement to an amendment addressing concerns the law would be a gateway to gay marriages.

The amendment says the law “may not be construed to create, add, alter or abolish any right to marry that may exist” under state or federal law.

Like this type of language has stopped activists in any other state or State Courts to deem such language unconstitutional. For anyone who thinks that this is not “foot in the door” politics I have some fresh water lobstahs to sell ya too.

A Real Disappearing Act

You just can’t make this stuff up. Truth is always stranger than fiction. If you ever wondered whether magic was legitimate and how they make things disappear, this is how its done.

Every Wonder Why the Govt Wants To Charge For Email

Think the Federal Government does not want to try and not only tax Internet usage but emails as well? Looks like the price of stamps is going up again to 39 cents.

Postmaster General John E. Potter told a gathering of national mailers in Nashville last week that the Postal Service had asked its board of governors for permission to seek a rate increase of 5 to 6 percent.

…would be needed in 2006 to cover the $3.1 billion annual cost of a special escrow fund that Congress required the Postal Service to establish when lawmakers restructured the agency’s payments to its employee pension funds in 2003.

If you ever wonder why the Post Office seems so mismanaged and price increases so common just look at how Congress has organized it.

“Failure to repeal the [escrow] provision will directly impact the Postal Service’s rate planning and will trigger annual rate increases, over and above any rate increases needed to fund postal operations,” Collins and Sen. Thomas R. Carper (D-Del.), a co-sponsor of the bill, said in a statement.

The Bush administration has been reluctant to go along with such a repeal because it would add to the federal budget deficit.

What is most worrisome is when the US Postal Department starts making comments like the following:

Last reorganized in 1970, the Postal Service recently has been plagued by stagnant revenue, rising costs and declining mail volume. Especially worrisome to postal officials is the accelerating decline in first-class mail, a lucrative line of business that has traditionally covered two-thirds of the Postal Service’s costs, as Americans increasingly turn to the Internet to pay bills and communicate.

No, that would be especially worrisome to the American public.
